anyone know where I can find an adapter plate to work on my 55 (322) 4bbl? I want to upgrade my carb with an Edelbrock or Holley carb and can't seem to find anyone that makes a carb adapter? Thanks.

I think Trans-dapt still make that adapter. Try a local speed shop or even Summit/Jegs. If no luck let me know, I might be able to find one around here.

The adapter you will need is a little different than that one shown. You will need one that has a small square pattern to mount to your intake and a similar outer pattern (or dual pattern as shown). to the one shown.
Also, the one 58sled found is different that it is for a spread bore style carb, this is why the openings are so much larger in the back than the front. I am sure someone still offers it, it may be elsewhere in the Jegs catalog.

Yeah, that looks like it alright. The inner pattern will bolt to your stock manifold using the allen head bolts in the kit. They will sit flush or slightly below the top of the adapter. The Edelbrock will bolt to the middle set of holes. This will make a nice set up on your car. I recommend the 1405/1406 Edelbrock, about 600cfm I think. This will run very nicely on a 322. I ran it with good luck on my 401 for quite a while before going to a Holley then Factory matched 2x4s on a b262.
Just make sure you have set up the starter switch elsewhere and make the trans linkage work with the new carb.

What do you mean the starter switch?

Your car should start by pressing the gas pedal to the floor. This closes a switch on the passenger side of the carburator. There should be a yellow and pink wire gooing to it I think.
If you still have this set up you will need to change the switch to work with a different style carburator. Take the two wires off the original switch, pull them through the firewall into the car. I think they come in just behind the distributer on the firewall. Next, but a momentary (push button) switch from a parts store. Install the switch on the dash where you can reach it and connect the wires to the switch. When you press the switch, you will send power to the starter motor. Sounds more involved than it is, should take 1/2 hour if you really are fussy about where to locate the new switch.

Ohhh Okay, well my car doesn't have that I don't think, the owner before me put a push button to the left of the steering wheel on the dash, I turn the key and then push the button to start my car.
