I don't have any air flow in our 72. Blower runs, I replaced it when the fender was off. Just can't get it to come out any of the vents. I know there are a lot of vacuum hoses that operate the vents. Does anybody have a description on where all of the hoses and stuff goes? Any other solutions? Any help or ideas would be appreciated.
AC Car? Check the back of the selector switch. You will find a milti-port manifold into which all the vacuum hoses connect. This manifold gets attached to the rear of the switch & occasionally will come off. On the bottom is a small electric switch that activates the compressor in an AC car. My car currently acting the same way. Airflow only at the floor vent. I have a bad diaphragm somewhere or a hose has come off. Easy job to fix once found but I just don't seem to relish taking the 8-track out, removing the radio, heater controls etc... Maybe job # 1 in the Spring after Winter storage!
Thanks. It is an AC car, and I see the hoses on the back of the swith so I will check that. I have those vacuum hoses running everywhere and many were disconnected when we got the car, so I don't know what goes where.
First check to see if the vacuum storage tank is even connected. It is on the firewall to the passenger side. There is a vacuum hose that leads from the back of the carb to the tank. Then a small thin line goes from the tank to the heater controls. There is a 3rd thin line that goes to the heater control valve.
I can relate. The hoses on my Grand Prix are brittle and split and then fall off (...and there are hoses EVERYWHERE! This car is "power everything"!). Fortunately, I have a '63 Pontiac A/C repair manual, and there is a diagram that shows where everything connects. It's just a matter of taking the time to trace everything and then hooking it up. Amen! For now, I just roll the windows down ("power", of course).
Nicely done, Steve. Mark - if you are interested here is where I got my Service Manuals (A/C, Body and Chassis). They probably have the same thing for Buicks. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&viewitem=&item=170151113036
thanks. I'm going to look for the canister. I put on a different intake and carb and may have missed that one. Steve, can you email me that vacuum diagram. I printed it and I'm too old to read it I guess. carmantx@lyntegar.com
Thanks everybody. Steve, I got the email and printed the page and it is much better. Looks like a den of small snakes to me. I'll try to get it sorted out this week.
