I got Moroso's in there but they area flat wore out and really never like them. Who else makes a good spring for drag racing for our GS's.
Chevelle, Skylark springs with small diameter wire/coils are springy for great action & will last a lifetime. I use 67 El Camino, Moog 6204, springs and they were very long and wire very small. Had to compress them to get them in but they rock at wot. Lop off a coil if too tall; there are plenty more coils left. Stock type springs will LAST FOREVER. no annual Moroso spring change for me. A coil spring that lasts only 1 year also is affecting wheel alignment every trip until the front bumper is plowing up speed bumps.
Moog or Detroit Spring... 1970 Olds Cutlass, w/inline 6, no a/c should be the same as a 68-69 Chevelle with a 250 six cylinder, no a/c :Smarty:
Jim is that what was on the front of big red? Gary, sounds like you have changed or have wore out a set of Moroso's too. Everyone that has used Moroso's say they don't last either. Your about the 3rd guy that says go back to a factory type. interesting!
Here are some Moog front spring samples: 1. Moog 6204: wire dia .609, 11.0"tall at 2015 lb., 265 lb in. rate.... El Camino 67 no a/c 327 2. Moog 5398: wire dia .656, 11.5"tall at 1678 lb., 365 lb in. rate.... Cutlass 70 no a/c 6cyl 3. Moog 5230: wire dia .609, 11.0"tall at 1884 lb., 251 lb in. rate.... Buick Spl. 64 no a/c My El Camino springs are a bit too tall for me. I would now choose the 64 Buick spring. A Skylark 5379 spring on the rear really woke up my traction action. Gary do you think the #5230 would fit a 70 skylark? The other thing my car weights with me in it 3270 lbs. The front end is at 1780 lbs.
The 5230 should be very close on your weight and the fit is no problem for 67 and up to at least 1972. I wish I had used that spring on my GS because the 6204 ElCamino spring left my front end 1.5 inches higher than I prefer. Installed height is 11" on both springs but the 5230 takes 200 lbs less to compress it and that is what I like about the 5230. Hope your using cheap gas shocks or adjustable drag shocks. Heavy duty is bad. Measure your rocker panel to the ground before and after after installation. Then put the measurements and track results on here for us. This would be good info to share.
Gary, do you still use the front sway bar? Is there a disadvantage, other than weight, to using a larger 1.25" front swaybar? Mine's a street/strip car, and I hate to compromise handling.
Fernando, Do yourself a favor and get a set of QA1 coil overs for use with your stock control arms. Super adjustable for tune and ride height and work very very well. At $450 for single adjustables with springs they are a bargain compared to constantly wearing out Moroso's. And I GUARANTEE your car will 60' better than it ever has.
My big fat SWAYBAR has never been off. My next sticky tires will be smaller and I will experient with the swaybar and shocks then. I try to keep everything streetable and stock, no visable gadgets, chrome, anodized parts, etc. The QA1 coilovers are a great replacement idea though.
JR, I have thought about that, but I recently bought the QA1 front shocks and after spending all that money I see the springs are junk too. So I hate to not used them and try a set of springs since they're not that expensive. If and then it still won't work then I'll go to the coil over. I wished I would of just gone coil over before my investment on shocks (not stinking cheap). Really want to thank everyone for their input. I hope to have results here soon after we make the changes if this heat don't kill me.

Two weeks ago I installed 5380 springs. They are for a 69 skylark,chevelle L6 w/o air. 318# rate installed weight 1680 at 11.25". These are long springs with alot of assist. The result is that my front end is higher than the installed 11.25". I'm sitting one inch higher at somewhere around 1700lb frontend. They will settle after alittle while. With my rear coilovers set to the lowest setting the rear is down so the car has that gasser look. I can get use to it. I did find a patch of cement to do a couple launches with my new quick time pros. FREEK'N HOOKS! I do have a four link with 18.5 wide tire but still. It works better than ever. My cigerette lighter hurts shooting out at launch.
I run the small block rated Moroso's on the front of my 70 GS. No sway bar. Gives me great weight transfer and good ride. Sits low though. Drags sometimes going over curbs.
