Isnt the timing tab cast into the cover already? To the best of my knowledge, there are no aftermarket tabs. There's no reason to make one.
Nope.. Just two bolt holes.. And a black marker line based on a good guess form the engine this one replaced.
350 Buick engine correct? If you look at this thread- http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=160413 In the first pic Ken posted, you'll notice the cast timing tab. Its molded into the cover and non-removable. A small block Chevy has a separate timing tab that attaches with two bolts.
Enlighten me on this. Im at a loss. I didnt realize they made an aftermarket cover for a 350, much less with a removeable timing tab
Jason, I just took a trip to look at the bolt on timing tab I had . If I knew how to post a picture here I could do that or send it to your e-mail . If you want it sent to your e-mail PM me and I can send it tomorrow .
Thanks Mike. After I posted, I went on the Poston website and saw the timing cover. I can see it doesnt have a cast in timing tab. My initial opinion was that it is maybe a late model (75-76) factory cover that has a removable tab? Im thinking Buick redesigned them towards the end of the run. The only 350's Ive messed with are the early ones-73 and down.
I saw the cover they sell. I saw that it didnt have a cast timing tab. Strange. I did notice the two holes where one would bolt on. Im not convinced this is an "aftermarket" cover. I suspect its just a new, late model (75-76) Buick cover. I'll have to ask a buddy who owns an original 75 pace car to look at his cover and see if its like the Poston one.
I got the cover at Engine Parts Warehouse . So yes it is an aftermarket cover , but nothing special out of the box . I will try to get a picture of the tab later tonight .
I see one in TAs catalog that looks like it will work. Page 132 PN TA1341. Crap.. Gonna cost me $25 to get a timing tab only to find out that I already have TDC marked correctly..
