"Build a TH200-4R for 1,000 HP" (pg. 40) "Build a 200-4R: The strongest factory overdrive ever" (cover) Car Craft March 2009 http://www.carcraft.com/toc/thismonth/index.html Happy reading! ElectraJim
I'm thinking they actually wqant you to buy the magazine. This is just promoting what is in this months issue. In a few weeks the article may make it onto their site.
Or you could get in touch with Scott King on this board. I asked him a couple years ago if a metric 2004R could be built to hold 1000HP. He said it could be done for around $1200, I think. Ask him for sure.
sounds a bit low for 1000hp rebuild....more like 3k+ if it was indeed true i dont think anyone would be using built th400s talk with 70 gsconvt, he has a 550hpish 455 with a janis built 200r4, paid over 3k for it
Anybody have an email or phone number for Scott King? The guy in KC that was going to build my 200-4R has gone AWOL (thankfully I still have the trans and my money), and I need someone else to build it for me. Let me know, Randy
We can build the 200-4R and have Built them for some 10's Turbo Regals. We Built the One for my Turbo Regal still going strong after 4 years of Racing the Car and Driving it on the Street. Shot me a PM with your Number.
Read-up in the transmission section of turbobuick.com. Lots of good information. $3000 is what I have in mine with converter, and that was almost 10-years ago. If you think one of these transmissions will reliably handle 1000 hp you are crazy.
Randy, he is on this board as 'Scott King', don't know where he came up with that screen name. http://v8buick.com/member.php?u=2019 He is in Kearney, NE and owns Heartland Transmissions. Get in touch with him. I am sure that we can get you tranny to him somehow.
i'm thinking a fully built 200r4 will only take 550 to 600 give or take depending on torque output...maybe 650 is youre lucky or baby it only overdrive trans that'll take the abuse would be a 4l80e other wise you're looking into a gears vender or US gear o/d unit
My understanding is that the trans is better suited for a turbo car because it's brought up on the converter. Flashing the converter is what causes the input shaft and drum to break. Anyone running the 200-4r in a non-turbo car, 3700lbs+ thanks!
Yeah, I do. Stage-2 455 in a 64 Skylark at 3770 with me in it. Bruce Toole has a billet input shaft that is laser-welded to the drum. They also run trans-brakes in them so your assumption of a turbo being soft on them is only partially true.
I think that now with all the advances in billet parts, rollerized bearings, and metallurgy treatments, the limiting factor now is the direct clutch pack inside the drum. CK is developing a 10-disc pack, but the drum can only contain so much volume (surface area and thickness are traded off), and can only dissipate so much heat.
