It may be the weight of the oil your using try using the r12 mineral oil on the next one you get. that may prolong the time before the oil slinging contest begins :beers2:

I got that gal at my supply house for around 20.00. I'll probably never use it all. Does any of you know which cars had the oil slinger shield on them and where to find one in good shape?

I can't say specifically, but late 60s-early 80s Cadillac and higher end GM cars would be your best bet. Full size Oldsmobiles and Buicks in the late 70s, for sure.
I've seen the shields turn up on Ebay and sometimes see them still loosely mounted on compressors at swap meets.

Those shields were often removed and discarded. They had to be completely removed to replace the belt and were just "in the way". Many folks had no idea what they were even for.
I worked as a (greenhorn) Tech in a Buick dealership for a short time in 1982. The "seasoned lead mechanic" in the shop told me I should always throw those things in the trash. "All they do is attract oil and dirt and s*it up the belt! It's only there to keep that long belt from jumping off in case it gets loose. " :Dou:

All good stuff to know. I doubt the belt jumping theory to be true.
