I am looking for a classic license plate for my 66 Skylark for the state of WA. It must be in good condition or I can't mount it on my car. Thanks.
You might want to give ebay a shot. I found a 63 Washington plate still in it's original envelope for $70.
The swap meet in Monroe is only a month away there will be several vendors selling plates if you can wait that long.
They stopped stamping the year after 1963, except for 'Dealer' plates, which you may or may not have difficulty registering. There are 3 years that used the correct style plates for your car, then get the correct '66' decal at a swap meet. Shop eBay for a letter/number combo that you like and then bid to win! J ~ ps: this is the style that's correct for your car:
I should have added I got a almost perfect set of two there last year and had them throw in the tags for $100 , singles are cheaper. Sarge is correct on which one you need make sure you get the right one as the license dept seems to be getting pickier.
You will only need one, but it does have to be in pretty good shape. I lucked out and got this one for my Cat. Took some searching on ebay, but it cost me $60.
Ive been looking for a pair for 4 years for my 65,all i get on my ebay search is Washington Redskins framesp I remember when Wa went to the blue & i had to give my originals up,even remember the # AIL 998.Since i was allways working on the car my smart-alec mom(RIP) asked if it stood for AIL-ing:laugh:
Bjorn at info@oldlicensefarm.com sells super nice restored ones, I think they are $128 each with a tag.
Hurley I have a set from WA. the plate number is CCB 406 and I have both the front and the rear...they are in great shape. $50 shipped to you send me a PM
If Hurley isn't interested, I would be Carl. They can go on my 65 Riv GS, just like the one they came off of. :TU:
So, you can register old plates in WA, even if you weren't the original "owner" of the plates? I didn't know that. Hmmm . . . I just might have some old plates . . .
Your local license dept should be able to give you the information ,, Its a one time registration and if the car already is licensed its cheaper , has to be 30 years old and they tell you limited mileage, no daily driver but Ive never heard of any one hassled over the last two requirements.
u guys have it easy & cheap to register and use yom plates. in ontario, if u locate a set of yom plates (i paid $50 for a great pair), u have to send them to the ministry of transportation to verify that the plate# is currently unregistered and that the plates are in good condition. u also have to include your vehicle ownership (not a copy) and a cheque for $268 +/-. they then return everything to u. once returned, then u have to attend the licence bureau and give them $74 for the expiry tag and a new ownership. see what i mean?
