http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1970...7538948?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item27cae21604 That's my $2000 (bid $3200 total) initial bid, all I can afford. Go ahead Mike S., bid awayuzzled: I know this car, though rough, will bring out the heavy GS455 'vert 4 speed money.... maybe not? Frankly, I didn't think there were any of these "barn finds" left. OK, maybe an occasional 1970 GS455 hardtop bench seat car but not a holy grail car like this one. I will estimate it ends in the $15,000 to $20,000 range.
I generally don't buy GS, I don't have the kind of money for a restored one or nice driver. And I am getting too old for these full-on projects but this one would be pretty fun to do and has the upside of retaining some of it's value. ---------- Post added at 08:25 AM ---------- Previous post was at 07:32 AM ---------- Duane What do you mean? I am no A Body expert so can you decode a little more for me? Thanks
"What do you mean? I am no A Body expert so can you decode a little more for me? Thanks" Code 26 is Stratomist Blue which was I believe a Riviera only color for 1970. That is why there is a "R" before the color code. (R for Riviera) Therefore for it to be on an a-body it would have been a SCO car. I only know of 1 other 70 BB convert this color and it is a Stage 1 auto with a white bucket seat interior. I also have first dibs on it if/when it ever comes up for sale. Duane
I could very well be wrong BUT when was the last time a basket case 70 GS455 convertible 4 speed car came up for sale through ebay? I don't follow it close enough but I do follow other "Holy Grail" cars. Cars that guys just can't resist and basically there are a lot of lurkers who wait until the last few minutes and value gets drastically increased. These cars are 42 years old now, truly rare to find in this condition and there are some (like me) who want to have the satisfaction of restoring a car that is so rare, and putting it back into circulation. I know that there are a few muscle car geeks with million dollar + collections that have agents looking out for these cars, maybe not this one, but their "bucket list" cars for sure. It will be fun to watch, I am glad I spotted it but there is no way I get it for my high end of $3200. If I do, I'll do an Irish jig in my garage and add it to my fuill sizer collection. ---------- Post added at 11:09 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:08 AM ---------- I would expect it to cost upwards of $75,000 to restore, maybe not, thanks to the vendors and A body parts availability. ---------- Post added at 11:11 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:09 AM ---------- Thanks Duane. I thought it looked like "Diplomat Blue" to me. You goin' after this one?
Certainly an interesting (and IMHO not very attractive) combination of colors. Stratomist blue w/Black top, and Burnished Saddle guts. Someone must have had odd tastes to order a blue car with a brown interior! On the plus side, it is a consolette car and has the original 7040243 carb, posi axle, and rear sway bar. Buyer would need to be ambitious to restore that car, but it would be valuable once restored.
Duane, How did you forget about JKC car. 455/auto though. http://www.buickhorsepower.com/category/cars/ DL
Man, I'm sorry guys but that car is a money pit just waiting to happen. You gotta really love that car to go for that restoration.
Someone left the ignition on,bet the battery's dead!p God,that is one rough car.$75K to restore is probably more realistic.Thats$20K more than i paid for my first house!
"Thanks Duane. I thought it looked like "Diplomat Blue" to me. You goin' after this one?" Nope, not interested, my resto schedule is filled up for the next 4-5 years...................................but if the 70 Strato Blue conv I was talking about came up for sale...........I would figure out which car was leaving and buy it. After putting in an entire floor in both my 70 442 and 70 Chevelle convertibles, I told my wife I only had one more "body" to build left in me and it wouldn't be this one. Have at it guys. Duane
I agree that it's a money pit. It makes more sense to buy a $20,000 GS455 (or GS400) driver/show car. If this car is a GS455 hardtop, bench seat car, automatic (in this condition), I would not be interested.
Mike S didnt pass on it..hes the one selling it..look at the screen name of the seller....saba440..too much of a coincidence.... im sure hes figured out its a looser...
well.. if you say so... if it wasnt do far away, id try to buy it...when i looked at the slide show..it just aint that bad....it just looks ugly...
