Stock pan, stock filter, 1 quart over full. BRF trans with a Transgo shift kit. 8.41 with the stock heads and a milder cam. Did a head swap and stepped up to the next size cam, then the local dragstrip went belly up before I could get back out there
Question, if anyone with an A body Skylark (like 71) installed one of the aluminum aftermarket pans which are 1.5" deeper than the stock pan (2.5" vs. 4.0"), were there any ground clearance issues with a stock suspension?
TA Performance sells an aftermarket aluminum pan for this trans. Holds 2 extra quarts. Sits lower, so may have some issues with street driven machines (my opinion). Also looks to be overkill unless you got the hottest thing around. Overfill the stock one and use a good trans cooler. Done. Trans cooler will provide some extra oil capacity as well.
Update: Trans, deep pan and cooler are getting along fine. Once I got the fluid level correct my leaks out the vent hole stopped and it seems the engine temp has stabilized. I have to say that once the 2004r linkage issues and above items were addressed the trans behaves as it should with the shift kit, easy around town, crisp shifts when hit hard. The OD on the highway really drops the RPM's! So far after a lot of tweaking and a 2nd rebuild the 2004r seems much better than my 350 turbo with a similar kit. :TU:
