    Hector,

What is the ratio difference compared to the OEM on a 71 Skylark and would the unit be a direct fit?
Also does the steering column need to be removed for the swap?

    Steve.

most 70-72 come with factory quick ratio (3 1/8 turn stop to stop) you get 1/8 turn less which is not much but this is a freshly rebuilt box with no play or slop. The rag joint will need to be removed but not the entire column. This is a better swap for 69 and older cars or cars that did not come with the quick ratio option. They are factory boxes that are rebuilt and converted to quick ratio so they bolt right up all fittings rag joints mounting bolts and hoses work just like the unit it is replacing. I have two more ready to go.

Hector, thank you for the excellent service on rebuilding my GSX steering box and sending me a rebuilt one for my Fathers 68 GS. He loves the quick ratio steering now that we did a full conversion from manual. Thank you for helping this process go smooth.

Very quick and professional service keeping me informed every step of the way.

    Hector,

So to be clear, the 72 Skylarks already had quick ratio boxes, and a quick ratio is 3-3 1/8 (or so) lock to lock? There is nothing out there better?

    Thanks,
    Mark

yes most had the quick ratio option. I have seen a few bare bones stripper cars with out it but most do. They have a 2 1/2 turn box that bolts in but from what my rebuilders says and what i have seen from experience you lose turning radius and it is not worth the swap. Hector

I think that is what happened to me - friend recommended Monte Carlo SS box and it bolted right in, 2.25 or so turns but feels like I lost turning radius.... feels like I am driving a Ford :)
