I need to know where the radiator overflow tank should be mounted in a 1969 Buick GS 400. Photos? Email buick.jrjensen@gmail.com.
What kind of tank do you have? Here's the deal: The 70-72 tanks fit perfectly on the front passenger fender well, nestled up against the inside of the fender. I understand this was an option and I verified the fit on my 69 and it fits perfect. You might have to pop one maybe 2 holes for the screws. The other kind is an aftermarket style that sits in a basket holder. The third option was just a burp tube hanging down from the radiator nipple. That is the "method" I currently have and I can honestly say I have never, ever had an occurrence of it puking any antifreeze onto the pavement. Not even a drip.
Hey Ken - On my 65, I have the 70-72 style mounted just as you describe. You'd have to be a true Buick guy to know it's not factory. I've seen different rules where some tracks, maybe NHRA require a coolant catch can, so while the car doesn't puke if you race it again you may need it.
I have the aftermarket with the basket. Would you have photo of where it goes? This car has all the a/c components on it. Thanks!
Perfect Rich. That's what he needs it looks like. Rhett, to race I just wire tied a burp tank to the back side of the grill and ran a hose to it. Be nice to have the 70-72 style tank but I can't justify having the Parts Place hold my $150.00 while the tanks are never getting made again. LOL Anyone who has received one off of this auction in the last 2 years, let me know. Because as far as I know, there is no supplier and it is just a nice picture of one. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1968-72-Bui...Kit-/330449980816?hash=item4cf05a8d90&vxp=mtr I know someone here was making them, then stopped...etc. So I don't know where to get one and used ones are lousy looking for the money people ask. I'd just as soon buy a new one if they existed.
