I don't know if he "really" wants to sell it, I know he has had it advertised several times in the last year or two, and you like you said, the price is pretty high. Now if it came with an option to purchase the car, it might be worth it.....
I met the owner several years ago. He offered it to me for this way back. At that time he lived in another location also local. He is in his 70s and a nice person.
I'd hang on to it to sell with the car. It'll make the car that much more valuable to someone who wants all the numbers matching.

I would buy it and stockpile it. Then when he eventually goes to sell the car, lowball the $%^& out of him because it doesn't have the right transmission in it. If that doesn't work, find the new owner and sell him his original transmission for a small profit :grin:
And btw, that trans was apart. look at the tail section. It was sand blasted. That's supposed to have a die cast finish
Yeah......but he's not making any one of us to buy it. And another thing how often do you see a stage 1 4 speed trans for sale. Out of all my car shenanigans, I have only had 2 stage trans, which I didn't know what ever happened to the car. jmo
I for one would not want a "rock crusher" if your not drag racing with a very strong engine and slicks why put up with the noise? And yes I have a straight cut old style Richmond and a vertigate shifter in a 69 Charger RT but I was 19 I agree with Jason if I had the extra cash I would get it and hang ob until that car came up for sale Jim you know the car whats it like remember the interior color it almost looks saddle or sandlewood I wonder if white is the original color
He's really only three hundred or so off on his price. Realistically its probably worth about 1200-1400 if everything is brand new inside as he says
Pardon my ignorance, what's the big difference between the M-21 and the M-22? A standard is only effective if you know how to drive one, and most people in this day and age don't even know how to use a clutch or that you have to start at 1 and go up to 4th. And what's "R"; - "race"?
The M-22 was designed for road racing. The gears are straight cut and are of a higher nickel content. They held up better. The 21 has the same ratio just with the standard helical gears.
Straight or "spur" cut gears are much stronger than helical cut gears, and do not put as much strain on the case. But they are really noisy, thus the nickname "Rock Crusher". This type of trans was put behind big horsepower for longevity reasons. I'd use a THM400, and an overdrive if I drove long distance. If I had cubic money, that is.
Perhaps that sums it up. He prefers the car with the M22, doesn't care about 'matching numbers' or resale value. Let the next owner worry about it.... I hope that is many, many years away! Drive it. Enjoy it. :TU:
I like the way you think. As far as price goes, he is in the ballpark. I stole a very nice '69 Vette/Z/28 M21 for $600.
