Well, I was going to PM Jason and the other 4 speed guys so I didn't have to show this to the world but hell it might help some other 4speed wanna be's like me(did I just Rhyme?!).:3gears: The exterior shots of my car look decent but definitely a LOT more going on past the cover with tons of stuff but for now can I get some opinions on how bad this hack job is and whether it is even in the correct location to allow me to mount my consolette I searched everywhere to get. I am not replacing floor pans so that's not an option but happy to weld the hole up smaller IF i can confirm location. Thanks for any help fellas
why not finish cutting, or hacking like the factory did, the hole get a proper floor hump John? I have template I would loan you.:TU:
A template would be excellent I have my stuff stored away but I think I even have a repro floor lower boot ring That would give you the final size So it can be screwed in place then mark out all the needed sections to replace. It almost looks to have once had a Vertigate Shifter. If you never drag raced a 4spd with one you dont know why people were so quick to butcher their floors :3gears::3gears::3gears::3gears: My first experience was in a 72 Vega with a 327 4 spd M22 narrowed 12 bolt with 410's with a Vertigate man that was a real blast
Well Marko says I need a good hump and you are saying I need a ring? Feels like I am getting married again!ou: lol Yes my 70 Stage 1 four speed 3:64 car gave me the bug BAD! I shifted that thing like a demon! Gotta get behind a 4 speed again soon! PM me on that ring please John and we can throw it on the Fritz pile lol
John, have a look at my old convrersion thread and go to the begining of it and you will see what it should look like... http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.p...tic-to-Manual-Transmission-68-72-BUICK-A-Body
You definitely need a hump... The hole in my floor looks like the guys at Buick used a steak knife to cut the hole. Then I would just tack weld a patch to the side of the tunnel after you install the hump. Id finish it off with a coating of some roofing tar. It'll probably look factory when your done!
IMHO I would buy the available hump cut it using the ring to get the finish shape and size. I am pretty sure unless your good with an english wheel you should go that route. Then weld patches in the uncovered cut outs. I was thinking about you when I realized I had 2 of these rings
okay, starting to feel better guys, I was embarrassed to show you that floor but from what Jason shared it was never that great from the factory. Thanks again :TU:
Ha ha small world ain't it? Pulled that up on a Google search. Wow John!!!! I looked up that V-shifters function (I always thought they were automatic wanna be 4 speed shifters!) those things are freakin awesome!!!! Not sure I can give up my purrrrrrrrtee consolette to run one but man those look fun!!!!:3gears:
john, there is a guy on here that had his 70 converted to a 4 speed on Car Fix tv show and they fabricated a hump from a hump so its a humpty hump ?? its well done ,eric can find the show i'm sure
Yes! that would be super dee dooper cool to see Bill! I just want to get to this Stage soon....... https://video.search.yahoo.com/vide...i5gr1&age=1193074006&fr2=p:s,v:v&fr=ipad&tt=b :3gears:
Found this description and equally glowing feedback. And you say it will go right in mine the way floor is cut? Sweet!!! "the best 4 speed shifter you can have for those of you who do not know how these work it goes like this,u grab the T handle infront of the shifter with your fingers pull up and it and hold it up then with the rest of your hand grab the shifter and push it up(thats 1st gear) wile still holding the T handle with your fingers and still holding it up pull your shifter straight back(2nd gear) now let go of the T handle, push the shifter straight up again (3rd)gear and straight back again (4th) gear. To back up put the shifter in the middle of 3rd and 4th and the other shifter that you didnt use is reverse. i hade 1 in my 1969 amc/amx and u can bang gears so fast i did it without letting off the gas. This was the 1st time i ever had 1 and i loved it,and u will too"
Hi John, I also read that summit review, and noticed they are "not available". I put one in my wishlist. As far as if that opening in your floor is for that, I dont know bt funny thing is I was talking to a guy yesterday morning who was telling me about the car his dad used to race using that setup...
