Well, with the loads of information here on fittings, hoses and coolers, I have a list of all the parts required to finish the plumbing on my 67 build. thanks to all who posted. now, How to pull the trigger on 400 bucks worth of parts...ugh
Joe - Please do post up when you get your install finished as I'm doing the same with my '67. Do you have AC? It appears that my AC condenser won't allow for a tranny cooler any thicker than 3/4", which really limits total cooling ability. If you're sans AC then I guess you have significantly more room to fit a larger cooler. Thanks.
Ok, so I got the tranny cooler installed. The cooler feels like a quality piece. I used 3/4" x 1/8" aluminum bar stock to mount to the brackets on the bottom of the cooler, then mounted in the bottom holes for the AC condenser: It was a tight fit and in hindsight I'd probably mount it about 1/2" to 5/8" lower and drill new holes for the bar stock. But this works. I modified the provided brackets to mount to the radiator cross member. I've got about 3/16" between cooler and AC condenser. Oh, and I used some 1" stainless sheet metal screws with plastic spacers on the bottom to make everything line up. I took a die grinder to the mount on the upper corner of the AC condenser to make the hose fit: All in all, I'm very happy with the install. Haven't run the hoses yet, but that shouldn't be rocket science. I'd definitely recommend this route for installing a tranny cooler on a '67 GS400 with air conditioning.
Nice job Cam. Do they make that cooler with -6an fittings or any other threaded fittings ? The size looks like it worked out perfect. where does it sit in relation to the grille opening. thanks for the photos too. they will help me a lot
Looks like they make a long version with 3/8" inverted flare threaded fittings, but its 1-1/4" thick and wouldn't fit behind the hood latch support http://www.oregonperformancetransmi..._Code=OPTI&Screen=PROD&Product_Code=LNG-47391 . I think the one I used is probably the best option and most cooling we can fit on our cars. Not sure about your grille question at the moment but I'll post a pic when I put grille back on. It should be below the top of the grille.
Jim, Whats the part number on those lines you used? Im sure its listed somewhere in this thread I cant seem to find it.
I’m not Jim, but I used -6AN push lol hose with fittings, Aeroquip brand. I had to use conversion fittings at the transmission and at the radiator. The fitting sizes are on page 2 starting at post#24.
You know after all that 3/8 lines work fine. Its all in tbe quality of tbe cooler. And not picking up heat on the way back to tbe trany.
Larry I'm interested in putting a trans cooler into my '72 Lark. Currently it has a TH350 & I've read over this thread a decent amount of times & I'm looking for the information for the size of the fittings at the transmission & the radiator. Some of the links no longer work. Also do you guys have a link for the hoses & the red fittings? Last but not least which method do you guys prefer the bypass or the series installation? Thanks, Kyle

You can't over cool the fluid that way.
