455 blocks are a lot more available. Really no other reason then that... I have 4 or 5 455s, zero 430s. In the last 5 years, I've seen 1 430 for sale, I'm certain that had I bought its weight in gold it would have cost less money for the gold (ah the joys of Craigslist). In hindsight, I should have used a TA block - but that's hindsight and I'm not starting over (again). Of course, with that said, the why-don't-you-justs just keep rolling. If you get a TA block, then you 'need' a billet crank, then you 'need' the super-duper heads.... then you're bankrupt with an unfinished project that's taken 5 years.
Sorry, that comment was for gear_grinder, I thought he was commenting on what he is planning to do. I already knew you were on your second block and were sticking what you have. Very cool project though thanks for sharing and keep it coming please. :TU: Those other cars that were the inspiration for you to tackle this project are sweet looking rides. :Brow: They would probably of inspired me as well if that car was in my possession. lot of work, lots of years - but I'm giving up watching the Presidential debates, a few millionaires beating up each other for an oblong ball, and Game of Thrones ..... I think it's a good choice :bglasses:
Time to drag back out the mock-up motor some assembly required someone asked about the flanges. I had lots of these made.... I'm still not 100% certain what it's going to look like when done - but I like doing headers, so it's kind of like playing with Legos, if I don't like it I Hulk smash and start over
so I was between projects tonight so I figured I'd continue planning. I don't think I've gone any further... the biggest problem with putting turbos on the car is I'm replacing a long, narrow motor for a short fat one... so where to put them? this has possibilities, but I think I need to move them down.... of course, it's cold and dark outside where the Buick is... so I dunno
Have I mentioned I'm going to make this thing drive with the 'old' motor that's in it? the motor needs bearings, but it ran when parked - so as long as the rings aren't rusted....
a reminder of what this is going into cheap chinese ones.... good for fitting, door stops, and shining on shelves. I figured spending 3k for mock up turbos was kind of silly.
and it's back in the shop engine picture.... these are coming inside (including the Fiat) that said, I'm going to make some progress on this even if the 'only' progress is strip and primer...
dragging this out of the grave now that the block has been fully seasoned... time to get after it the first step is clean up the block... interestingly this is a 5/8" bore block (oil passage which makes it a 74 and later block) and the edges so the back story is I need to get these parts in one place (and I may throw the car together enough to drive).... but most importantly, we may be moving soon and the safest way to transport it is together
