Just wondered if it is possible to polish the lens on the clock in my 70 GS. I was going to try plex polish first and if it did not polish out I was going to try headlight lens polish. Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks Jim
Once its fogged like that, its done. Nothing will bring it back. Its not just the surface, its the plastic itself. I remember we had a five page thread on what makes the clock lens do that several years ago. Its gotta be a reaction to whats given off from the spark of the points in the clock mechanism
Jason thanks for the reply. Next question is the clock lens replaceable or do I have to replace all the gauges lens? Thanks Jim
You can replace just one but I would recommend replacing them all. That way they all look the same. The cluster isnt that hard to remove. And once its out, you can replace all the bulbs. Its so nice to see nice bright bulbs through new lenses. Its like driving a new car
I️ tried polishing my clock lense to no avail... Any idea where to find a replacement lense? Thanks, Marc
It is the ozone, created by the points and electrical arc. Ozone is three oxygen atoms. (O3) and will cause (more) rapid oxidation to the plastic, and it permeates the plastic, oxidizing the internal crystalline structure. tick-tock...
Hugger, I need one with a pointed lens. Where do I send the check? To whom do I make it out? Let me know. Thanks again.
I polished mine with toothpaste and it cleaned up perfect however $15 fir a replacement is to good to pass up.
