Are the low and high stalls 1200/1800 respectively in a stock application as installed from the factory? I'm just trying to learn what I'm working with.

Depends on the car weight and rear gear and also how much torque your engine produces at lower rpms.
If u are using the sp 400 converter which is 13 inch i believe its tighter than the sp300 converter which is 12 inch i believe. Both are a direct fit in a sp400.

The 65-66 GS used the smaller 12" converter similar to one in the 300 engine, stalls around 2000/3000 rpm. A V6 converter will have an even higher stall behind a big block.

1967 Buick Riviera with the 400, so likely a 13" converter. What would you estimate the stall to be?
Another way I could figure it out is with a brake torque, but I am away from the car for another week and want to have a good idea of the ability of the switch pitch.

"The converter changed stall speeds from 1800 rpm to 2600-2800 rpm"

Got a SP400 question, but not about torque converters... I've heard that the output shaft outer diameter is smaller than a normal TH400's, is this true?? If so, in theory, couldn't a regular TH400 slip yoke be chucked up in a lathe and turned down to fit?

    Thanks!

The output shafts are the same size. Use the rear housing from a newer TH400, it's a bolt-on, & change the yoke with the newer one.
