I believe it's because they are installed dry, ..... and over tightening just exasperates the problem.

I have seen it several times in the past. It is something I look for as a matter of habit. I always wipe the sealing surface of the engine clean, and lightly lube the rubber seal on the filter with clean engine oil. Most of the cases I have seen missed happened to several friends at a Jiffy Lube or similar place.

I had this happen to.me once on my wife's car, make a couple quart mess. I was in hurry squeezing my own car in between appts. In fact every time I took the filter off that car for 100k the seal stuck, no mater what filter, on her car it stuck. After doing this once I hope it never happens again

No double seal on this car. For Sure. Always wipe the mating surface clean. pre fill the new filter and use some of the over flow to lube the seal. The remote filter mount is very visible and easy to access. I firmly believe this was a result of a defective filter. Ran the same one all last yr. ran the new one 5 passes last Sat. all installed exactly the same way. No leaks to be found now. Believe me I checked after every pass.

Only happens to you once. Then you check. Guess how I know.

Same here. Once 20 years ago as a dealer tech, and never happened again.

From the times i have seen it it has always been a bone dry seal that took a hammer and prybar to remove. I would say the seal quite often stays stuck to the housing, and is seldomly left by accident. You usually know right away by the oil sound it makes. I can think of some good words for it but, im errrrahhhh not going to now.

Do you ever have to represurize it with air.? After sitting for a weekend or so.

It still had pressure in it after sitting on the shelf for over a year. The instructions say it will hold as long as you need it to.

i was thinking more like when all plumbed into your motor, after a weekend would the pressure bubble through your oil , or push all the oil into the pan or somethin.
Or what happens if you forget to flip the switch in the viedeo . Or say you for get to flip the switch back off. This may be more practical on a less expensive motor though.
Basically is this one of those things that can do harm if you forget to turn it on , or off.
Like the ole electric fan switch that if you forget to turn on you overheat , or drain battery if left on.

The air that is pressurized and oil the oil are separated by piston and oring seal. So they are never in contact with each other directly

Anson, Its a spring loaded momentary switch It closes (makes contact)when pushed down opens when you let go. If I was to buy this kit new it would have come with a nice fancy rocker switch. Keeping in line with the recycled theme of the car I cannot have any new fancy store bought stuff. this ride is 90% left over, re purposed others peoples hand me down parts.

ahhhh thanks Ben. N Briz. Kind of like an expansion tank on a boiler. I guess the only question is how low does your oil actuall have to get before the acumulator kicks in. If you have to starve before it gets there , that would suck.

Anson, I think your missing the point of this. It not a save your engine in case of a sudden oil pressure loss. I suppose it could help if you were really quick on the switch and happened to see the pressure bottom out. All this is designed to do is pressurize the engine with oil prior to a cold start. After you make your first pass or otherwise make enough pressure with the engine rpm it recharges the tank and you are good to go for the next cold start.

I gget it . Im thinking of an oil accumulator that has a solenoid for prestart pressure, If there is such a thing. What you have is just a pre start pressurizer. I didnt recognize what i was reading. It took about 4 explanations . thanks for sticking with it there Briz.
