Hi yall was wondering if any one has had any experience with the ta 413-350 camshaft an what kind of real world horse power and torque this thing can produce
I ran that cam in my 350 up until my new build. I had about 10 to 1 maybe a bit more, I had my old block decked .050 so pistons were at .005 in the hole. Engine had gobs of low end torque, BUT I degreed the cam. I idled at 750 in gear, 850/900 out of gear. Vacuum was 7-8" in gear. Pulled hard to 6 grand. Had the TA Stage 1 intake Bought the SP3, still had tons of low end. Changed from my TCI to Jim Weise's 9.5" custom convertor, WOW, it REALLY came alive on the track compared to the TCI convertor.
Right there in his signature; 71 GS 350 (mine) Best so far 13.65 @ 98.84 mph I think that was with the 413 cam, he hasn't said his new engine is ready yet.
LOL, its not top secret Derek beat me too it I'm sure I could have gotten more out of it but I'm learning too. This site is a treasure trove of info, if you've thought it, chances are somebody here has tried it! Seems Buick people are VERY helpful, and like to share! Theres much more in my venture up to this point, some things I should have done differently, and some things I didn't need to do at all, its a matter of weeding out the "gotta have's" from the "would be cool to have's" Right now my machined block, rods/pistons and crank are in my dining room LOL. I'm painting the garage, so HOPEFULLY in the next week, I'll be done painting and trimming and can commence my new build My IRON heads are done, I had the machine shop clean 'em up, I'm forced to run 'em for now, cause the aluminums aren't ready, besides I spent the money on house stuff I'll be posting as I build As far as my best time on the track, I believe the 13.65 shows I was making the torque, but my trap speed is showing the heads weren't breathing up top. I could be wrong here, but see, I'm still learning.
I'm really glad that the v8buick community is helpful it seems like every time I need some answers I tend to find them here.
Oh a stupid "smart phone", didn't know that stuff didn't show up on one of those? Here's the rest of it that is relevant to the thread; 71 GS 350 (mine) Best so far 13.65 @ 98.84 mph 413 cam going away, switching to TA roller, starting again with Stage 1 and Q-Jet, then to SP3 and AED #3 rod bearing spun, I'm down for a few months, going forged rods, pistons, aluminum heads. I only did the first sentence because I didn't know you couldn't see the rest of it, there ya go.
