There was a discussion about the stickers on side of the Quadrajets. We just purchased over 1600 early Quadrajets from a collector and got them to the shop today. In this collection was over 40 engineering master Quadrajets. Built before production and used on flow benches for testing. Never been on car or had fuel in them.
Some of the Buick’s had the round sticker, and Buick’s were only ones we found that had them. Most of these have tags with data from testing. Didn’t have time to review them all. Not sure if the sticker reason can be found in this data.

My best guess it was probably just a color code in order to quickly identify a particular casting number.

I remember that. It was a promo WonderBread put on back in the late 60s, early 70s. Certain random loafs had a Quadrajet in them. And when "squeezing bread loaves" came into fashion... [IMG]

Wow, that’s a lot of carbs! One “job” I had as an engineering student at Rochester Products back in the 80’s was to drive a Suburban loaded to the roof with Quadrajet “samples”, or pre-production prototypes, from Rochester, NY to both the GM Tech Center in Warren, Michigan, as well as to the Milford Proving Grounds. Lots of cool stuff to see. Us students were used because we were cheap labor lol. I wish I would have paid more attention, but at that age, I likely had other things on my mind!

That is cool Bob. If you have any more information on how these were tested and utilized I would be interested in hearing. There are a couple of them that have some external components I have never seen.

Yea Ken. This guy went around the country in the 80’s buying GM muscle car parts. It is an incredible collection.

    Hi Mark,

Did you happen to get the correct one for a 67 GS400 Manual Trans (7027148) in that stash?

Ed, I will add you to the list with that number to see if we have one. We have a list that has most of them listed, but have only gone through about 200 of them so far and have found many surprises. We do have a 7027249 Engineering carb. That number was never produced, but was the testing for manual trans 67. Also show to have the 7027146 engineering carb. We have found some other Buick 4 speed cores in this first batch, so maybe we will run across the 7027148.

Sorry but I don’t remember anything more. It would be neat to see some pictures of your bounty..

Here are a few. The man in first picture was the collector of GM muscle car parts. He still has some distributors and alternators, but almost all gone. He stored them in barrels and knew what carbs were in each barrel. He sold cores on eBay and to builders. In the late 80’s he probably had 4000 or more carbs. We purchased his last 1600.

I think Mark was transporting the carbs in a U-Haul type truck. It looks to me like they were stored in barrels in a storage unit.

Right Brad. He had them in barrels for “easy” storage he called it. 35 of them. He had a large storage unit and many were under his house for climate control. Plus the hundreds of bases and air horns he had loose in piles.
We hauled 5 pick up loads over the past several weeks while finalizing everything, and took the 26’ UHaul to finish the trip.
