Sherri from TA called and said they're ready to ship out. I told her Im still interested, but not at this time.
LOL, a long time, but money that was saved to buy 'em right now is gone. Plus I owed federal taxes this year, so no refund for me Sadly this is what happens when a product takes this long to get to market. Even IF I had the funds now, I just don't have it in me to pull the engine to install heads this year
If Sean was the first one on the list, as he alluded to since he got his shipped out a few days ago, and when I called two years or more ago to have my name put on the list I was on the list for the "second run" Then I get called a couple days after Sean, saying they're ready to ship, Im sure more than 2 people were on the list I think the list is short right now, people have backed out, sold their Buick 350, or died. There will still be buyers, me for one, but the timing sucks
I couldn't wait that many years,so I bought some really good used Stage 2 heads instead..I can't give my 350 stuff away,so it's going to the scrapper..
Im sure TA will sell what they have, and maybe there wont be a second run due to lack of interest, who knows
I visited TA back in march on a roadtrip. I believe Tim said they had 35 back orders to fill on the heads. I walked right past the stack of raw castings on the tour. I completely understand life happens, especially after such a long wait. However the sbb world has been putting a tremendous amount of pressure on TA begging for parts and attention. If these heads are a bust for TA this will likely be the last bone you guys will get tossed.
I didn’t put a deposit on the heads because I’d rather put the money towards the other things I wanted to accomplish at the time . Just so happens I picked up a block and I dropped it off at the machinist two weeks ago. He hasn’t had a chance to look at it, but I also said I wasn’t in a rush, I didn’t think the heads would be a reality so soon. Hoping to have it all done for next spring. Currently getting parts together to convert to Sniper EFI with the motor that’s currently in the car.
Sounds similar to my situation at the time, I intended to install the new aluminum heads, took stuff to the machine shop, bought Molnar rods, Auto Tec forged pistons, ( spec'd 11 to 1 comp ratio) thin ring pack, already had my TA roller cam and lifters, SP3, blah blah blah. get everything back from machine shop, a few months later I start assembly, basically took all summer on weekends. Aluminum heads still weren't ready, so I used my irons, I wanted to drive the car and get it to the track to get some numbers. Got it all together and the Morel lifters were noisey, so I got Johnson roller lifters from TA, another 640.00 with shipping Im not bitching about having to spend almost 700 bucks on another set of lifters, the Johnsons are AWESOME! I just drew the line for this year on spending money on the GS, that's it Im done for the year, Im working with what I have for the summer and fall. Next year I'll do aluminums It will be interesting to see how much I pick up between iron and aluminum heads
It’s understandable, I don’t blame you at all. You have a nice setup and likely through the winter you can switch to alum heads. I built a house with my dream shop this year and when TA called to let me know the heads were done I didn’t even hesitate to place the order. After so many years, this is a huge deal. I’m ordering a few more sets next month, I have a feeling the first run will go quick. Who knows when the next run will be ready to ship. 2021?
This is definitely a huge deal for the 350 crowd, for sure I’m buying a set, just not buying right now, I’m outta GS money
When I called TA and spoke with Tim when I heard they were in the final stage of drilling the holes for the spark plugs. He advised me no need for a deposit, they have an ample supply on hand. Just waiting on my machinist to confirm the block I dropped of is sound.
I'm going to wait for the reviews. Once I see it's proven...no issues then I'm in. I'm a little concerned about the valve/rocker alignment. Just want to see somebody give a review after they've clocked a thousand miles or so.
