I like Wayne Carini's CHASING CLASSIC CARS too. As to the OP, I have never watched the show, so no opinion. Most Car/plane/train/building something "documentaries" add unnecessary drama that doesn't add anything to the show and takes something away to those who are seriously interested. People who have to have the fake drama are probably not smart enough to understand what is going on anyway. JMO.

Like the Dramatic sounding music and I can't believe what I just saw stupid face that Dan Short makes when they find a rotted brake line on "50" year old car:rolleyes:..

I almost feel had saying this, but I honestly smiled when I heard that show got cancelled. Everytime I saw anything pertaining to the "phantom works" show, I almost pulled my tv off the wall and set it out with the trash cans.

rawlings does what it takes to make $$$, I was at an event in TX, and he was there, was a NON car event, ( wedding) so many didn't
even know him, I did speak with him , he was ok, not my best friend, but not the guy you see on TV,
I don't always agree with his builds, but then, he didn't ask me either.
the guy I can't stand is the mopar guy (graveyard) never ,ever have I seen such an arrogant ass,
IMO .... if you judge RR by his tv show , then you probably judge all actors by the move they star in?

my main issues with ALL the tv -cars shows ,,, they are always rushing, or on a impossible time line,
every shop I've ever visited quotes 6 months to a year for most builds.

Don't feel bad, that's one guy I think I would actually hit:eek: just for the heck of it if we were in the same room..I posted on his FB page as to how he could scam that guy and charge $80,000 for the butcher job he did on that 71 or 72 GS 350. He erased my question and blocked me.. I'm not a FB guy but logged on just for that question..
Doesn't that show just eerk your nerves something fierce.. After all his ripoffs of people and taking their life savings "HE" actually had the nerve to say he wanted to bury someone in a shallow grave after he saw the floor was cut in a 67 Vette when someone stole the tranny:rolleyes:

I guess I'm weird - I like Fantomworks. My above comment about unnecessary drama applies to Fantomworks, and I don't like his habit of dropping Chevrolet crate motors into just about everything, and I don't approve of converting a pre-1950 6 volt car to 12 volts just because modern cars are 12 volts, but overall I think the show is/was entertaining and for the most part, well done. Various errors on the show have been discussed on this forum, but when filming for a series production, time is of the essence and sometimes the cinematographers have to "cheat" a little bit to get the show in the can (an old phrase, but you know what I mean). I have mentioned this before, but Jay Leno commented that you can buy a car for $6,000, put $50,000 into it, and it will be worth $13,000 when you are done. Most regular auto shops in this area are charging $100 per hour for their work; a great restoration craftsman is harder to find then a line technician, so Dan's prices are not crazy. If it takes $15,000 worth of parts and 700 hours of labor, the bill of $85,000 isn't ridiculous in my book. If you think it is, you probably shouldn't have a car restored.

I wonder at times if his extreme prices are also fake or scripted. I do believe though he is way way way out of line with his prices. I do get you will put more money in than you will ever get back in any resto. Who also are they targeting for a audience?
Example they had some car "can't remember now" with a SBC with a huge gap between the intake and head, enough as how this car ever even ran. They take off the intake and in the lifter valley there was some type of round metal gizmo that was either fake or someones try at a breather type thing towards the back?? He grabs another SSB intake he had on the shelf and that dosen't fit or seal either.
The "Genius" in him puts some yellow tape on the gizmo to see if its the issue and of course its the problem because the yellow tape is marked!!
Everyone here and even a little knowledged would of seen that gizmo was the problem from the second the original intake was taken off.. That "fix" probably took 15 minutes of the show and was absurdly stupid to film. I can see the little cheating the cinematographers had to do when they showed a leaf spring rear end with tiny 4 lug drums on the ground, that was suppose to be the 71 GS's original 10 bolt when he replaced it with a 12 bolt Chevy..
I also don't like or really understand when in his opening statements that he uses a fast production line type of work on peoples cars.. Who wants to hear their car was rushed in a total restoration???

Looking back, the only car/reality show I could ever stay tuned for was Overhaulin'. I don't agree with everything they did to the cars but it's not about me, it's about what the owner/owners friends and families believed they wanted. All the others have too much drama in them and I can't stand to watch them so I don't, and I've tried. Are these guys like that in real life? I'd bet that Chip Foose is exactly who he appears to be. The others? Who knows, but they sure to make themselves look like jerks on TV so what else do we have to go on unless we meet them in person and get to know them, which most of us are never going to do, nor do most of us want to. I know I certainly don't. But I have my own life to take care of and RR and the others mean nothing to me. The choice seems easy enough to me, if you don't like them, don't watch their shows.

Wayne is not my cup of tea I watch him once in a while during winter when there is nothing else on. He is too into the Chi chi high end foreign stuff. I’m not into the ascot crowd. It’s just a world I have no interest in. Give me millions of dollars and I still wouldn’t want any of that pebble beach snot.

All these car shows are a freaking joke. there are parts of some shows that are educational Iron something Martin auto. . They show that some body work involve tools that are above the average shop. Saw another show out of Simi Valley narrated by Billy Gibbins. First thing they tell you is it takes years to to do a restoration.... ASS monkey show is the worst..... no tide with maggot in LV..

I usted to think bad of chip fuse. One day we crossed paths at a show. I seen the crowd around him but I would not bow to him and walked by him like an a hole.

Later I posted something about him and one of his dads personal friends contacted me. I fell like the biggest ass when I learned his true self. And I owe him an apology even tho he doesn't even know I disrespected him.

I wish there was a car/metal working version of "This Old House". I went to the Piston Power Show this year and the crew from "Wrenched" was there. He did not seem like a people person. His wife was very nice. I like the metal working on the show but do not like the style or taste.

    Some really passive aggressive attitude.

I have seen the show and I think he is an act, and the act is he is a jerk. The cars are also done with techniques and style I would not rather have on a car I own.
