That cable hook looks wrong to me. I remember Turbo 400 has long straight hook . About 9”. No bends that I remember like yours.
What spring and clip? I have the 7” cross member clip and two smaller clips that go to the left and right side of the undercarriage. Then the threaded rod on the end of the front cable. No spring.
No, the clip that holds the spring on the cable in place. It looks like your spring is not installed. The long spring pushes on the frame where the cable exits under the car. The clip is slightly larger that the spring diameter and looks like a toilet bowl seat. The clip goes on the ferrule on the cable against the spring. The spring pulls the cable toward the rear of the car. When you push on the parking brake pedal you are pushing against that spring.
Looks like I don’t have that clip. However it appears the spring is on the cable. Also, I took another look at the transmission cross member and realize there is a second hole for the hook. Moving the hook over (originally in red hole) and now the cable reaches. One point for today.
Youre lucky... on the 64 I had toosen the cross member to get the hook in. Its too close against the floor. ws
I don't know why the manufacturers don't provide them with a new cable. I had to use my old one. Check to see if you saved your old parts, or post a wanted on the board.
So, a long spring and small ferrel on the front cable are loose. I don’t have this said “toilet” or “mickey mouse” clip. If I did have he clip, how does it attach? Do you slide he spring and ferrel towards the front of the car and possible crimp the ferrel or place this clip over it? I just don’t see how to keep it in place? It looks like I can buy true clip for like $30 from year one. But just don’t know how to install it.
It’s been a few years since I did mine but the clips are pretty self explanatory. If I put my hands on it I could pop any of them right on.
Thanks! Clip is only $3 from Ames Pontiac. I’m still waiting from tech support from inline tube on why the ferrel is loose.
Its not to hard to install, if I was home I could do a pic for you. The one pictured in the Year One catalog is correct. The "mickey mouse ears" are for the clips to the frame. I am assuming that the cable is like the OEM one and the spring can go over the ferrule. You have to force the spring against the frame (use pliers/vice grips) past the ferrule. See the picture I posted. Slip the slot of the clip over the cable with the dish towards the spring so the spring goes into the cup. Gently let the spring loose and the clip will lock against the ferrule. It is basically a washer that keeps the spring from going past the ferrule. If your ferrule is loose it won't work. Is it loose?
I don't see a clip on the picture I posted but it would go on the spring next to the ferrule. On that car the ferrule is larger than the spring and holds it against the frame. I guess that's camaro or mustang??? But it shows how and where the spring should be.
I just purchased the clip, but the ferrel is loose so it and the spring move. If that ferrel is supposed to be locked to that cable, it isn’t. I may need to engineer something to get it to spring back. Maybe crimp he ferrel myself. That front cable was a b**ch to install with the fender and wheel well in. It ain’t coming out. I was trying to upload a video. It’s only 4 seconds. Guess it won’t let me. Did some screen shots.
$30! I just used a drum brake hold down spring retainer. All I did was cut a slot in it and slid it on the cable. I'll try to post a picture, but I can't always do it on this site.
