I used a factory disc and conventional diaphragm pressure plate on the beater. I think it was $185 from Falcon. Its smooth as butter. I cant even tell you whats in the Aquamist car. Its the same clutch I bought it with 15 years ago
I used an off the self Autozone sourced basic centerforce for 4 years and 1 drag week. I started suspecting it was slipping in high gear at WOT hence the change to the orange centerforce. No complaints for that 1.5 years and 20,000 miles. Bending the clutch pedal rod out of the car as it started siezing up in stop and go traffic changed my mind about getting another one.
I am also on the same boat. I am getting readt to swap in my 4 speed but don't know which Clutch to choose. I've been eyeballing the Mcleod Street Pro Clutch ($ and the Center Force Dual Friction Clutch. I'm also on the same boat. I am getting ready to swap in my 4 speed but don't know which Clutch to choose. I've been eyeballing the Mcleod Street Pro Clutch ($ and the Center Force Dual Friction Clutch. I'm leaning towards the Centerforce as well. Did you end up going with the centerforce?
I've put a lot of Centerforce Dual Friction clutches in customers cars over the years and for the most part have had good luck with them. The plus is the light pedal pressure but the dual friction discs can be plagued with chatter from time to time. I put one in my El Camino and just couldn't get rid of the chatter. I changed TO bearings, pilot bushings, perfectly aligned the bellhousing, I even swapped out my nicely resurfaced flywheel for a new RAM billet flywheel with no positive results so I swapped the disc for their organic disc and it's been great ever since. I still have the light pedal pressure and it's nice and smooth now. I had the same issue with a customers `70 GTO a couple years ago. Centerforce admitted that they have had this issue with the DF discs.
I ended up ordering the Center force dual clutch earlier. Ran me $350 not too bad but I guess it will hold up if I add more power. I'm bit worried hearing about the chatter but I'm hoping for the Best. I also have a brand new TA flywheel going in and pilot Bushing. Crossing my fingers. I went with the CF dual clutch after seeing that a lot of people state the pedal feel isn't too far off from stock.
I like Centerforce. I’ve ran them for years with no problems. I just took one out because I’m going back to an automatic
I was going to order another center force clutch but don't remember what one I put in the last car. I have a centerforce clutch folder with photos of the parts I bought but didn't label what car it went in. I have a DF148552 and a CFT165552 After reading about the dual friction chatter what would you recommend for a buick 455 street car
FYI I just went with a GM 11" Clutch in my 71GS and it works great and easy to drive/shift, it's just a street car not a race car.
My buddy has one in his small block Nova. He likes the clutch a lot - he's been running it for about 4 or 5 years and has put several thousand miles on it so far without issue. I drove the car once, and coming from my Olds which has a Centerforce DF clutch in it, I felt like the LuK's pedal is more firm then the CF. Could very well be that I am just more used to the CF though. If I drove it more, it would probably be much less noticeable...it's not like super stiff, just a "tad" more firm than the softer pedal feel of the Centerforce. The Luk grabs nice and it felt like a quality clutch to me.
- Nice. Been happy with mine since 2009. Prior to that I was using a Hays, Borg-and-Beck style and it was brutal on all the other parts with which it interacted.
Restoring a 1970 442 presently it is a 4spd with factory A/C went with a Center Force clutch always had no problem with this product. Alain red W-31
