I am going a different direction with my Skylark. Parting out my 455. I have a turn key Fitech system for sale as a package. It is the full feature Fitech 30004 600 PA unit. All features including boost, nitrous, data logging, and tuning software for pc included. Wiring in picture looks a mess but was in loom mounted on firewall. All soldered connections and ready to connect the labeled leads and go. Also has HEI connector still attached and ready to plug in and go for the TA Performance HEI distributor that is a year old. HEI is tuned for the 455 by TA. Relay setup ensures good clean power to EFI and HEI. This is the biggest issue people have with Fitechs. Also includes welded down pipes with passenger side O2 sensor designed to clamp in to any 2 ½ in exhaust with manifolds. EFI systems need good power with high amperage. Also included is the 140 amp alternator that is like new. Will work on the non-ac bracket for 455 and modified bracket for tension on alternator with drive belt. Finally, also including the Edelebrock B4B manifold used with the Fitech. Was perfect before I scrubbed it and degreased it. Was painted with aluminum colored engine paint but it came out in some places with cleaner. Looked perfect on car. With drop cleaner its hard to tell its fuel injected and fits under hood perfectly. To buy new it would be $1786 no tax or shipping. I am asking $1280. My loss your gain and save over $500 bucks. Thanks for looking!
If you do decide to split things up I would be interested in the Fitech system and possibly the intake.
interested in whole package, just went to work but do have a few questions. How hard to tune this? Basically stock rebuild at the moment but this will support future upgrades? I need a carb, hei and alternator anyway so this seems the way to go.
You can tune it very well. It ran great on my 455. it does self tune, but that is just to run the car. ANY aftermarket EFI system will require manual tweaks to make it perfect. It supports 600 hp NA, less on boosted applications. Injectors are the limiting factors. On a 455, boost is not really and issue for street builds. There are defaults based on cam duration and cubic inches. Everything works together very well and I can help you get it running. Exhaust leaks and electrical problems are the most common issues people have. Carbs will run on poor setups, efi will not. The Fitech has a great Facebook forum with exports that will get you any help you need. Documentation is good. You can literally change any value you want to tune. laptop software included free. Let me know if you want it. We can go to private message for payment and shipping.
I do have a front cover but it's in unknown condition at the moment. I am hoping to get this crusty old motor torn down this weekend and get it to the shop next week. From my limited research this system looks to be pretty nice.
I'll have to hold off for now, I suspect I'll have another $500 or so in other upgrades to make it run. i need to see what surprises i have coming getting this longblock assembled. my wants got ahead of my needs.
I'd like to get 2nd in line for the Fitech, if you decide to split it up. Just curious, will the FiTech control the GM HEI ignition? Their website says "ignition control", but some systems (ie Sniper) don't like the HEI-style pickups. Also, got a link to that Fitech forum?
Search for Fitech EFI Users on facebook. they are awesome. HEI can be modified for timing control. T/A can do them and sell a unit compatible. HEI works great with this unit. there is a TA perf HEI in the package, but not controllable.
Put me inline for everything except the Pypes pipes. What do you think for shipping to zip 16226? Thanks, Mark
