Hey together, I have a quick question before I start the restauration of my 1971 GS grill: What kind of material was used? PP? ABS? Something else they don`t use nowadays anymore? Still unsure about how I`m gonna fix it, plastic welding or glueing. Do you guys have a favourite way of fixing the cracks (besides buying a new one)? Thanks Jens
Great, thanks for your help, guys...so I`ll tackle that cracked old thing and bring it back to "as-new" condition J
Melt the plastic in a small glass jar with acetone and make your own glue. Get the consistency like Elmers glue or a little thinner. Makes a super strong bond that is as strong as the surrounding plastic once dried. Sometimes I "V" out the crack and apply the glue. Once dried you can sand it just like plastic
Read about this also and I`am tempted to do exactly that...read that Lego is a good source for shredding material as they are composed of ABS. Jens
I did a job a few years ago in a closed down plastics plant as I am an environmental inspector. There were millions of plastic beads left behind as well as small plastic toys. I guess I should have grabbed some. My job takes me to some interesting places.
