Dear V-8 Buick fans with an itch for road trips, The Memorial Day weekend is finally here. Traditionally, it is the unofficial start of summer and the first opportunity for summer road trips. Alas this year, many of us are still stuck in "shelter in place" mode. If you find yourself still stuck at home and wish to daydream about heading out on the open road, this video might scratch that itch. It is called "Mobile Mansions" and is the history of the travel trailers in the United States: The film is a bit gabby and amateurish with good reason, it was made not by a cinematographer but by the author Douglas Keister. He is one of the pillars of the vintage travel trailer movement and has written a number of books on the subject. Dovetailing on Keister's book experience, the documentary includes views of many early trailer going all the back to the 1930s - all beautifully restored! So if you need an hour of escape from your "shelter in place" internment, this might do the trick. Although, if possible, it is best viewed from the comfort of your television and easy chair. Cheers, Edouard
Dear Nailhead in a 1967 and fans of road trips in a V-8 Buicks, I took my own advice and watched it a second time last night. It wasn't a road trip, but nonetheless was very enjoyable. The documentary really covers the whole history of RVs, not just travel trailers. Thanks for sharing! The photos of trailers in the snow were especially unique! Cheers, Edouard
Edouard, this was your last post on the board. But your profile says you were lurking online yesterday. I hope you're fine. elagache elagache was last seen: Yesterday at 8:28 PM
