Maybe someone can answer this for me. On the '68 -'72 GS's, what was the usage of the cross braces supposed to be? I've owned dozens of these cars and there doesn't seem to be any rhyme nor reason for which cars had them and which didn't. All of my cars end up with them, but I'd like to know if they're supposed to.
In '70, GS 350's didn't get them - Just GS 455's and all (incl. Skylark) convertibles. I assume the same for '69. I'm pretty sure I added them to my old '70 GS 350 and I certainly wouldn't be shocked if a few came off the assy line w/them.
Maybe they were standard on big blocks and convertibles but only on small blocks as part of a suspension package. Later G body cars have braces that were added when a suspension package was chosen. Patrick
In '71 they became standard on the "GS" hardtop as the 350 & 455 became one series (3437) w/the 455 engine as option unlike in '70 where they were distinct (4637 & 3437).
