Finally, the Governor's gonna let us have our Streetnights back. He took care of his entitled golfing buddies first, before he got around to the working class. Live Free or Die , my arse... June 24th , the pursuit of lower ET's and higher MPH shall begin again in earnest......JIM
Outside eating right now, but this new ruling should change that. I would have to do some reading Joe, and right now, I'm drinking Patron and not looking to tax my brain or eyes too much...Jim I'll be sending ya a PM when I'm planning on going...
The god's honest truth is i couldn't care less about the ETs. I only go for the cold beer and steak tips afterwards.
NHRA Lucas Divisional June 19th thru 21st. Following Wednesday is the 24th, first scheduled Streetnight! Weather permitting, I'll be there with the 70', looking to break into the 12s.....JIM
Not looking so good for tomorrow's Streetnight . Thunderstorms predicted. ... I'm callin it and planning on Friday's Streetnight. I'll get there early, unload and eat something before the circus starts. It can get busy with hour long waits in the staging lanes. I have seen 4 staging lanes a few times last year, hopefully it won't be that busy... Last year :
So..... Got home Wednesday evening after work, started going over the car, git ready for Friday Streetnight. Ducked under the rear to check/set airbag pressure and discovered tank is leaking at filler neck/tank union. Took it out last night, Got a new tank, but I'm not gonna make it tonight either, wanna epoxy it before I install it. 603 Diesels club is gonna be there. Not much for the hangin in the parking lot, rollin coal thang anyway, thank ya. I'll check the schedule, and shoot for the next one! Jim
Last Wednesday was actually cancelled due to rain. Track would have taken 2 hours to dry. I'm 8 miles away and got no rain...go figure.... Jeepers, looks like the 1st and the 3rd will also be tentative dates , as thunderboomers are possible.
Made it to the track last night.Got there 4:30ish, got in the double line. Met some guys from South of Boston, Weymouth area. Some trailered, some drove thier rides. Unfortunately the track was plagued by exploding Hondas, who both should have gotten out of it before scattering parts and oil over 400' of track in the right lane. Track was shut down both times for 30 minutes or so. I was at the front of staging lanes 1st time, took so long , I got out, took my helmet off and walked to the restroom and back. Should have grabbed some food, cause sitting in the staging lanes was to be the order for the night. I suspect my drag radials have seen thier last pass, as last 2 Streetnights I have fought for traction, peddling it in the 60', obviously hurting my times. Could have been the track , as anything with a pair spun off the line. Not one wheelie was seen all night. Or a combo of track and my ET Streets going south. Dunno.....JIM
Was the track, after talking with other Streetnight participants and several racers who were test n tuning, it was the general consensus that the track was indeed lacking. Returned last night for another attempt to break into the 12s. Was going thru Tech, when a racer who had participated in the days track rental came over to thank the crew for preparing the track so well. Said his crew/car broke a world record . All I heard was "sticky" . I was hopeful for a hook n go instead of a spin n peddle. Things were looking up... Lined up with a FoxBody test n tuner. Hook n go! He got out in front of me and was pulling away when he turned the mosquito fogger on. Looked like a head gasket failure , not oil related so I ran the right side of my lane and stayed in it. Got back in line straight away and went again. After seeing my slips , I realized the mission was completed, I had brought the car into the 12s , not by much, but 12s none the less. Was still hot ,so I gambled and parked the car and waited for the temps to drop to give it a go again. I waited too long , you could feel moisture creepin in . Track went away, 2 more spin n peddle runs and on the trailer she went.... For reference my personal best was 13.09 last year, Car is pretty consistent, gutta work on the tree. I leave when the last yellow is fully lit, may try leaving when it first pops. Chop dat tree down! So in conclusion, I own me a 12 second street car , full interior, power steer n brakes .....Happy Rottie! Jim
Thanks for hanging in there on the long read sriley531, I like to paint a picture, so to speak. One more note-worthy item. My son tossed me 2 cans of this ArmorAll product. One clear, one black. I figured I'd give it a go. Adding it to my "day before the track regimen". Seems key to put it on really thick after taping panel off, multiple coats to achieve thickness. Probably get expensive for the avid racer, but not bad for the average Joe who visits the track infrequently...... JIM
Big Congrats, Jay. I know you've been working for this for a long time. Your car looks awesome and goes great. Now I just gotta find some motivation and cash fer I can whomp yer azz, but for now, you da top rottie! Great job!
Thanks Steve, couldn't have done it without your help along the way. Looking forward to chasing ya down the track! Still gutta few things to do that might drop sum ET. I didn't bump the timing any with the fuel mix or re-jet the carb. I'll try both, one at a time, and see what the slips say. Thanks again bud!
I was going to race in the New England Hotrod Reunion Hall of Fame Nationals today , but with the heat and humidity forecasted for the day I am unfortunately bowing out. This is a great event , and I am bummed to be missing it. Just too hot to be hanging outside all day and I don't want to push the car in the heat. Hopefully the event will return next year......Jim
Looking like Wednesday Streetnight is going to be a good one ,weather wise. Cool . Made some changes, secondary jetting, curious to see if I can drop some ET , add some MPH.... The slips will be the tell-tale.... I have been back since my last post,, but the track was lacking, and staff catered to racers who were test n tuning, leaving us sitting in the staging lanes , cooking in our cars, past 7 o'clock. So much for a four hour Streetnight. Lotsa upset Streetnighters ,and watching the entitled do laps past us didn't help either. I understand there was to be a big event, but perhaps cancelling/postponing would have been a better option. I drive 8 miles to the track, many drive up from south of Boston. Can't imagine how pissed they were. One guy I talked with in staging lanes had driven up from Stoneham Ma. and his wife and kids had been sitting in the hot stands for a hour waiting for dad to make a pass... Nuff said, it is a difficult year, with all that is going on.... JIM
