So what say the pricing experts out there? Is that a good price? It's a rare and desirable car, yet it clearly has some issues. Haggerty price guide puts it around 9 to 12k but for sure that price does not take into account it's a stick car.

Or take into account that it may be the only remaining non-stage 4 speed car left out there of the 57 produced

Yes it is. Thanks OP. Want to share more Tom? Sure would pair nicely with a silver '72 four speed...

Just got off the phone with the guy....

First, I never met a more unmotivated seller. He told me the car needs brake work, the engine is "huffing" oil. So it will likely need a rebuild. Carb is bad. Engine diesels after shutoff. The interior has rodent damage- holes in the headliner and back of front seat. So you know the thing stinks too. The shifter is hanging up in between gears. Shifter issue or a more serious issue with the Muncie? He says its also not the original engine and its been sitting for 10 years. And he wont take a penny less than $15K. I told him I would be willing to drive up with cash and a trailer and make him an offer. No go....wants $15k. And he says he's probably going to take the ad down because he really doesnt want to sell it. Said hes was hoping to get someone on the phone that really knew about these cars...uh, thats me?

I honestly cant figure people out

Sounds like one of those guys who has something cool, refuses to acknowledge that they will never do anything with it and will just be content to let the car continue to deteriorate under their watch. Unless someone coughs up the 15k, this car will probably surface again years later but in worse shape than now.

I made him what I think is a very reasonable offer of $8500 on it. Sadly, it looks like the matching numbers engine Tom sold it with disappeared

For what he is asking, that's a deal breaker for me. Also a huge red flag.

Some people overvalue things based on what they used to be, not what they are. It’s denial of reality, which seems to be an endemic issue nowadays. $15K would be a good price to me with no issues at all and a fresh engine with good compression, maybe minus some minor rust or paint spots

He did mention something about selling a few mopars "light" and then seeing them for sale for considerably more afterwards. Says he's not letting that happen again. I told him he picked the wrong car to do it with.

Jason, I suppose Mr. Unmotivated has no idea what year 455 lies under the hood? Bet the original block disappeared with the auction. It doesn't look a darn thing like a 71-72 GS350 convertible so I think you are not the guy he's been waiting for to call :p

When I sold the car, it had at the time, a good used 70 455 that had had gaskets/paint can rebuild.
Original short block went with the car.

    Jason,
Same guy that owned your old blue 4spd car had this one as well.
Same body shop that painted the blue Stage 1 4 Speed car, also painted this one, but this was a quick and dirty, hence the issues popping up. Prep work was obviously sub par. That is the main reason I sold it. I was going to have to repaint it to bring it to a standard I would have been happy with.
EDIT>>Now that I think back, the body shop took this car as partial payment to paint the blue car.
