Yea, speedo and final ratio not important here....it probably be close to 28-28.5 tire height when done

I have 295/40/18 on a 18 x 11, 6.25" backspace (1/4" offset). I would not feel comfortable going wider without mods, maybe its the wider wheel

Great! What are you running for fronts?

    245/50/17 on 17 x 8, with 4.75" bs, although I wish I had gone with 255/45

295 /40 on a 18x10. I had 5.5 backspace and encountered contact on the left side outer wheel well. Wheels were supposed to be 5.75 but CARiD messed up big time. Sent them back to be reworked. I asked for 6” let’s see what they do. I personally will never buy a thing from them again. It wasn’t until I threatened them with putting in a dispute with my credit card that they made good on their mistake.

Ok, would I have the same issue with 295/45/18?
And your saying, 5.75 backspacing is the way to go?

5.75 minimum I was told by another board member to go with 6. I requested my wheels be re-worked to 6”. I let you know when I get them back. Supposed to be within 2 weeks, but I won’t hold my breath.
FYI I did call American Racing and they recommended 5.75

What’s the goal for your car? Just a nice stance? Post pics when you decide on a wheel/tire combo. I know most guys here like a traditional 15”, but I think 18s fill out a 70-72 a-body wheel well perfectly.

Goal is to restore "mod" somewhat....stance is def part of it, being old school, I like the "stink bug" stance lol (lifted rear with big meats)
Totally agree that 18's fill up the well without looking gawdy.
I really like US Mags Rambler wheels, may try to find something similar for less $$$ though. Ultimately, keep for a short time then sell it for next project!

I have the opportunity to grab 2 295/35/18s cheap, anyone know if they'd work on the rear? I THINK they are only 26" tall, as opposed to the 295/45/18 being around 28" tall......26 prob wont get me that "rake look" I'm looking for?

    I went with a 285 40 18 for the same reason. It's 27" tall and very close in width to a 295

I chose US Mags Rambler U-117, their 18x8 (fronts), are 4.75 BS, their 18x9.5, is 5.29 BS.
These rears are not gonna work, are they?

The 18x9.5 is a half inch less than my 18x10 that gives you the equivalent of a .25” of more back space. The narrower rim also brings the side wall in. So you could be ok, but that’s my opinion. I also think a 295/40 18 required a minimum 10” wide rim. Best of luck. I’m still waiting for my wheels and tires to be shipped back to me.

I went with a 5.5 backspace on a 18x9.5 with a 285 40 18 after seeing that being a pretty common combo. Unfortunately the wheels are being made at Circle racing and the car is in the body shop so will be awhile until I can verify fitment.
