You pony up for all the numbers stuff regardless. New engine or not. That makes zero sense.

    Congrats on the sale, though!

It's a bummer that the buyer didn't have interest in keeping the original engine with the car, even if he didn't plan to install it. On the bright side, you can put this all in the rearview mirror and move forward.

The matching numbers block will be greased up and bagged and tucked into a corner of the barn, where it can wait for a future owner to reunite it with the car.
Some of the stuff I will use putting my 73 back to stock, and some will be sold.

I'm interested in the radiator shroud and radiator. My shroud has a piece missing in it and the radiator is not original to the car. It's an aftermarket.

I can't fathom someone wanting this rare car without the original engine, carb, etc. Makes no sense at all.

He lost his 41k mile car in a fire last month. He just bought a 32k mile 70 off his cousin, and is putting his engine in this 4 speed car. I didn't cook up the deal, I just accepted his CASH offer, and kept the stuff he didn't want.
I'm a preservationist, trust me, it killed me accepting this deal. I had to run it past a couple very good friends, trying to wrap my head around it. In the end, they both pretty much told me, "What do you care?", As long as you get paid, and it works out the way you need it to financially?
But trust me guys, I share your sentiment, it kinda sucks, but it is what it is. The remaining parts will help other cars live on with correct parts.

With that last sentence stated......I have everything I need to do a correct 455 conversion.

So.......where are all the 70-72 GS350 cars? Both convertibles and hardtop?
I'm in the market for something, unless I make a CASH offer on the Reynolds 65GS Drag car?

Yeah I totally get it. If people are upset about it they could have ponied up the cash for it and then the cash to do a restoration on it. I considered it myself, but it would have been a lot to undertake for it to be to my standards. Cash talks man.

It's your perogative, and yeah its a rare car. But there are a lot of rare cars out there, it isnt like you just took the Mona Lisa and painted over it.

Congratulations on your sale, sorry I reacted so strongly to the guy not keeping it all together, it’s a sale and it’s his choice. Have a great rest of the week.

    Kindest Regards,

Congrats Tom; I feel your pain in breaking it up but cash is king and if you both are happy then that's what it is - the car was very tempting to buy for sure, even when Larry owned it. - Lon

Unreal. No way I would have left that stuff behind buying that car. Sad it made all these years . I struggled not buying that thing a d restoring then selling my current car.
At least you can move on now.

Tom, congrats on the sale. Don't try and figure people out because it's impossible.
As has already been said, no Buick guy in his right mind or otherwise would ever entertain separating a numbers matching engine from the car it came in.
I don't understand it but I can relate to it.

I have a Chevelle buddy who has been trying for years to buy my 70 GS 455 as a roller. It's a 96K original mile car with the numbers matching engine, Trans, carb, distributor, etc. sitting on a shelf. The car currently has a 600 HP TA Stage 2 headed roller cam, roller lifters, and roller rocker motor in it. He doesn't want the original stuff. He doesn't want the current engine/Trans combo. He just wants the body and frame?!?! I guess because when he drove it he realized that my 96K mile unrestored Buick drove, rode and handled better than any of the restored Chevelles that he has sunk tons of money into.

I've never sold it to him not because I know he would put some 572 chebbie in it, but I just never have wanted to sell the car, period.

    Again, congrats!!

Well, I just got the 4spd crank back from the crank grinder, cleaned up at -.010mains/-.020rods, plus had it straightened, and bought $200 worth of new bearings.
I may go ahead and get the block hot tanked and see if it will clean up with an overbore, or if I need to sleeve 3 cylinders and keep it standard bore.
At that point I could assemble the short block, and I will have a WS code 72 Stage1 engine that I can either contact and offer to the guy, or have him keep my number in the glovebox of the car for the next person to contact me.

Aint this the reason you sold the car in the first place? Now rebuilding the engine?

I said, "I may", and that could be down the road.
No, this isn't the reason I sold it. In this current false economy, on the verge of a recession, and when we are already seeing HUGE inflation, parts shortages, price hikes on all goods, I was quickly getting upside down in this project, and didn't wish to get in any deeper where I was just going to lose more money, plus all the time invested.
I will concentrate on cars with less rust, needing less body and paint work.
Good friend of mine is a paint rep for Axalta(Dupont). They just informed all the employees the other day that there is about to be a HUGE price increase on paints, clears, hardeners, toners, etc.
The kind of price increase that is going to have an effect on everything, car insurance rates going up, cars will be totalled with less damage, new car prices will go up, and restoration will be a thing of the past other than ultra rare 1of 1 Hemi cars. The rest won't be worth the money invested.

Like many of you I read this ad many times. It was a good, complete car, and coming from Tom so it had a lot going for it. I liked it a lot but had the same concerns Tom did that I would keep sticking money into it. I forfeited my chance to comment about the new owner, he can do as he pleases.

Hang onto your hat for this next material increase. Sounds like a lot is going to double, and some stuff more than that.

Without getting into politics everything is going to go up as someone has to pay for all the stuff being given out. That being said life goes on!
