On 72 Skylark, can the engine be pulled with TH350 tranny attached?
    As well as headers?
    Any pointers, tricks?

Trans yes. headers probably not. Remove hood. disconnect everything attached to both and lift up and out. Dont forget the ground strap on the back of the head and trans cross member. Remove radiator as well.

And either drain the trans or plug the output shaft.

    Best way to plug it?

Plugs can be purchased (Jegs, Summit, etc.) or you can just use a spare driveshaft yoke.

Sorry to jump in: would you use a carb plate on a stock intake in this situation?

If your asking me, I would not....simply because I like using an engine hoist angler, which attaches in 4 corners of the motor, and then you can tilt everything as needed to get it out of the engine compartment

Why give yourself all the extra work that also involves removing the trans???? I've done MANY engine replacements & IF the trans. was OK I just left it there & supported it in some way to keep it from hanging. Then it will be no problem using the plate on the carb. mounting holes as you will not have as much weight to remove. I almost always replaced the front trans. seal while the engine was out.
    Just my thoughts.

Have pulled a great many over the years and I prefer using the carb base plate. I have the angle adjuster thingie and find its a pain in the ass and was a waste of money to buy it. As far as the engine / trans combo? I can go either way depending on my plans for the parts. Last time I did the Riv I pulled both but did it in two operations. I have a lift and a trans jack. so it was engine in and then trans up and in behind it. Had the trans painted at my local body shop so I didnt want it scuffed during install.

My question is because I am replacing both engine and trans.
