Very low option 350 automatic. All I see for options are gauges/clock, AM radio, & painted top. A bit banged up but orig. owner/paint, garage kept, SoCal car. I bet she's as solid/rust-free as you'll ever find. Wish I was in the market - I like it. Wouldn't change a thing but I like low option/manual steering cars. Only the 2nd manual steering/automatic GS I've seen and the other was also a '71 - Same colors but w/a 455.

  2. STAGE III

STAGE III Lost Experimental 455-4 Bolt Main Block.

Someone should buy it SOLELY because the seller covered the license tags with towels instead of a grubby, greasy, chewed up finger in front of the camera!:D

Such a neat car and I really dig it.

That is the most bare-bones '70-'72 GS I've ever seen. I can only see four options, do you see any others besides these?
    • Automatic transmission
    • AM radio with front speaker only (smooth package tray = no rear speaker)
    • Rallye gauges and clock
    • Painted roof

Gauges/Rallye Clock but yes, other than maybe F-41, tinted glass & whitewalls that's it. Even my low option '70 350 4-sp. has a couple more options than this one. There's no way I could buy it but if I thought I could I wouldn't have posted the lead:). I really like it.

Yes, Rallye gauges w/clock (revised my previous post). At least a person can keep tabs on the engine temp. :)

Appears to have clear glass and we can't be sure about the tires since they have been replaced. It's possible it could have F41 or a posi but I'd say it's unlikely to have either on this low-option car.

Yes, even the AM radio was an option that a buyer paid extra money to have. That's why saying "radio delete" is actually incorrect when speaking of a GM car from the '60's or '70s since a radio was an option, not a standard feature.

If the D1 or D5 radio option was not selected, then the car just had a removable block-off plate like this one:

I figured maybe a soft ray windshield but wasn't sure. Definitely one of, if not the lowest option load I've seen on a GS.

I had a very similar '71 350 once (automatic, base Sandalwood interior, AM, dog dish). No gauges/clock, F-41, remote mirror, steering wheel option, etc. & not even a top option but it had A/C and oddly enough had posi & disk brakes.

I find it fascinating how these cars got ordered whether it be by the dealer for stock or special ordered.

I bet the body & frame are pretty nice on this one. Lot's of potential as a starting point with such a clean body & frame.

Those coastal cars need to be checked in the window channels since they tend to rust out in those areas due to the salty coastal fog.

Why the desire for low options. This is not a Yenko or Baldwin Motion.
IMO Buicks are luxury rides and should be loaded right up.:):)

I'm probably in the minority on liking the low option cars (I've had 4 factory manual steering GS's). I like different and is probably why I got into Buicks in the 1st place and then the low option cars are very un-Buick like so an oddball amongst oddballs. If I was into Chevelles I'd probably want a loaded one and I wouldn't be against getting a loaded GS someday but I'd want to to have everything. It kinda amazes me that Buick even made these cars, let alone that they even offered them w/a 4-sp (yes, I realize the car I linked to in an automatic). I can'timagine that once they accounted for the engineering, tooling, & marketing that Buick made much if any $ on GS's. It even amazes me that they made stripped down Skylarks & Post cars but that was the age and people bought them I guess because they were Buicks even though they could've gotten a Chevelle with a few more options for the same price.

I can't speak for the car I posted (it's orig. owner so I'd love to hear the story behind the car) but in the case of say my low option Stage 1 4-sp., chances are the cars like that weren’t ordered because they were Buicks per se but because of the torque Buicks made & there were a select few back in the day that understood that torque was where it was at and the cars were ordered for one reason - To rule the streets and that they did.
