I'm looking for the PPG paint codes for the GSX, let's say 1970 I found Yellow: 81838 Called PPG dealer and he confirmed Yellow. Good there. Next I looked online for the Red and Black stripes. Found the following Red: 868-97522 Black: 898-98811 However the PPG dealer could not find those numbers. Does anyone have PPG numbers for the Red and Black stripes? Thank you
It's just code 75 fire red and the black is straight poor black with flattening clear or a Hot rod black works well,...once you wash it a few times its as close as one could want
Those are the GM codes for red and black. I’m surprised paint guy can’t cross reference? I have partial can for yellow at home. I can check numbers later.
Here you go, these are the striping colors. This is an original PPG sheet. https://www.autocolorlibrary.com/pages/1971-Buick.html#parentHorizontalTab2
That is the 71 sheet. 70 does not list stripe colors most likely because GSX was late build and those sheets were printed in advance. All three year GSX used same stripe colors.
Pretty sure in another thread from a week or two ago you said it was code 75? But any rate it's a 1/8 wide and not one human person could see the difference between two gsx's if they were parked beside each other,...but code 9260 is the universal GM Brite red,...victory red,..if you wanted it to be a Brighter shade
Just as a trivia item here is the February 1970 Ditzler/PPG bulletin announcing the addition of this new yellow paint color.
Wanted to say a big thank you to everyone for all of your feedback. I called my local PPG dealer and went with the following. Sharing in case others need help down the line. Yellow - 81838 Black - 9000 (Ditler #) Red - Code 81
Letting you because I went through this , ppg in dbc base coat clear coat ,tints that were in it are no longer available for the qq , they have a cross over mix and it’s not any good , the only mix that is a good color match in ppg is dcc single stage , I will post pic of a special mix formula for it ,pretty close, but there fading out dcc so you might have a problem getting tints , there generic Omni brand is close not something i would use on a overall job ,, Hope this is helpful
