Which 3 guys. I run JW "the wheel" internal balance. I did buy another V6 SFI internal that looks like it will be just fine...for less than half the price..

Before mine sits for the winter I wanna get more track time in, Im gonna try something different. My best so far is 13.4 @ 101.56 Im gonna try letting it auto shift into second and third, IIRC, I have the governor set for 6000 rpm outta first to second, then it shifts into third @ 55/5800 rpm. Im curious If Im the one holding the car back. The trans shifts faster by itself, theres a delay when yah do it manually and the trans. completes the shift. Then theres me forcing the engine to rev to 7 grand sometimes, its more like engine braking
No hate or disrespect here, but theres only a handful of people actually operating their 350 engines HARD. Im not elite or in a special "group" I like to use my "stuff" My GS has seen towing boats and tow barring cars back in the 80's from the Carolinas up to North Bay Ontario Car shows, date night, bar hopping, drinking and driving, going to the junk yard, AND driving inside the yard thru mud holes, over crumpled metal and tires to get parts, I once stuffed a complete interior for my 75 Electra Limited 4 door in the GS, It was funny the looks I got from people, Im thinking "I dont give a crap, this is my GS" Yes there are only a handful of people on here that run their GS's hard, and the three I mentioned are the ones that came to mind as there arent many others I have read about.
I've thought about you guys with column shift, how the heck you stabilize your arm enough to not go into neutral (too far) You rest your elbow on anything like your leg?
Fold down armrest helps. Yes when you don't want to you hit 3rd & get a short shift into 2nd. Never hit N. I might have to alter the gov to be able to just leave it in drive. Don't know if my shift points at 6,8-7 would mess with my normal street driving trimming the gov. All about control.
I did a B&M Quicksilver shifter cured my column shift problem. What you could do is put in a shift light then you can set a dial or use a pill depending on which one you buy and this way you could go under 200 rpm from where you want the engine to shift at. Yes it does take a little bit more to shift manually than the trans but is it really? Probably not since the trans runs off that governor and when it spins up to that point it shifts there is no delay it is internal. You just think the manual shift takes longer because it does. You have to move the shifter and trans has to react to that movement. My B&M shifts the moment I hit it but it has a stop to keep from shifting to next gear accidentally. On the column shift car and I can see why Mart does not want to put his shifter on the floor his car is in good shape and if it is a GS model it would hurt the appreciation of the car itself. What I would do here is put in a reverse valve body so you can shift the car from drive to low and that being drive/od My buddy did this to his hot Nova back in the day and this seem to work pretty well. It was the time I got introduced to Janis Transmission and all of us started using him. I upshifted with a column shift for many years before I bought the B&M shifter. Demko I know you can spin the motor to 6500+ so I would shift there and not let the trans shift by itself as you will go slower the thing will shift at 5800. Think about this, if you shift at 6500 the engine will probably only drop back to 4500-4800 rpm and you will be right in the middle of your TQ band and all you have to do is wait for the HP to catch up at 6500. Let it shift on its own at 58-5900 and it will drop back to 4 grand and be below the TQ band. You have that roller cam in there with your good lite wt rods and pistons so 6500 is it bud. I have been banging to 6100 for eternity there is no reason why you can't go to 6500 easily. Don't forget I had HP on the dyno from 5900-6200 with that 510 cam at Michael's racing so no reason why you cannot go past this. Steve Miller the JOker
I am sure you can change the gov and not affect the street driving I did have trans shop change mine so the rpm would be higher when shifting on its own. this did not change how it shifted on the street
I played with shift points using governor weights and springs awhile back, I used the B&M kit, its alot of work doing it but its kinda fun. I'll have to check again what rpm its auto shifting at, pretty sure its around 58/6000 rpm.
Lol....! Yep, I've had this car since 76 so that little movement to shift is a natural now. Old guys don't get as jumpy & excited...
