I used to call 55-57 Chevrolets taxi cabs because the styling reminded me of a Checker Marathon taxi...
What a view! The black 70 GS is owned by my friend Steve. Originally a blue, 350 4 speed car. I went to his house 30 years ago when he was trying to sell it for $2500....he wound up keeping it and converting it to a 455. We've been friends since
We have a new tenant in the garage till the weekend. My friend Paul's 9k mile 89 TTA. Looks beautiful. Runs like a bag of excrement. I think a bag of excrement might run better. It's got a mystery coolant leak. Looks like the water pump or gasket. The power steering pump is soaked with antifreeze.. Also here for a headlight motor repair kits. Having the headlights actually go up and down when needed is helpful.
I started on it tonight. New coil pack was a big improvement. The prior owner put plugs in but they're gapped incorrectly. Gonna check the base idle, adjust the tps and put in a new o2. Then take it out and see where we're at.
Nice clean Cascadia with adjustable fifth wheel, and king pin air release system. Looks like an aluminum fifth wheel plate as well. Think I need another Buick to play with. Come on lotto ticket!!
Trans Am is finished. The headlight motor repair was a little tedious. The original bushings turned into gravel. The right side was fairly easy. The left side motor had to come completely apart and the armature removed. Naturally, it took me 15 minutes to find one of the springs that came out from behind the brush. And one of the screws snapped in the aluminum housing. But I managed to expertly drill it out and save the original threads. Good thing I have thin wrists.... New coil pack, a set of properly gapped plugs and a new o2 straightened it out. Paul was all smiles as the TTA ripped into second gear. Night and day difference! GSX is back at home and I'll be starting on some new projects this week on it.
Ok, enough with damn pontiacs....back to buicks! When I bought the X, the original armrest pads were in the trunk. Someone had stripped the vinyl off of them so all that was left were the foams and metal cores. A set of early repros were installed on the car. Odd looking...they were molded rubber. A little rough around the edges literally and like all repros, the fit was terrible. Nothing fits as well as an original part. I took the original pads and dropped them off at my upholstery guy up the block. Funny, he asked me what he should wrap them in. I told him, your finest cheap GM vinyl! $80 later I got these back They look awesome! While the armrest bases are apart, I'm going to give them a good scrubbing and dye them.
Weds! So funny, I parted out a 69 Riviera in 1998ish. I took the transmission and stuck it in a garage I had in the next county. I subsequently Subletted the garage to a friend if mine. I don't think I've been back at that garage in 15 years. Fast forward to 2 or 3 weeks ago...Steve orchestrated a trade for my turbo 400 in exchange for Steve's friends SJ code radiator. So this weekend, I got the keys from Eric for the garage and sure enough, the trans was right where I left it 22 years ago! I forgot I also had two pairs of riviera doors, a hood, trunk and an nos 1/4 panel!
