The Mechanic https://fb.watch/9sHdPEKcb9/ Been watching these guys in India running little fabrication shops. Very old tools, no safety gear, most of the time wearing sandals or bare feet. Doing stuff in a way we'd never consider. Amazing

 

Thanks for sharing that, Briz. I have watched similar videos of shops like that. Those guys work hard and probably make next to nothing for their work. Everything seems to be "eye-ball" measured. You'd think they would get the lathe operator a proper mic for the job rather than trial and error fitting. A live center on the tailstock could help, too. Many of those processes used to be done the same way here before OSHA came along. I'm sure most of if not all of the machines were made here in the great lakes region of this country.

 

I like in the comments area the reference to the “universal safety squint” verses safety glasses.
I definitely have been forced over the years to adapt,improvise & overcome but gotta give the tip of the hat to this gang of pirates.
Bet they feel it working in that hell hole at home,but hell home might not be much better. They will be okay until one of those machines has a catastrophic failure buuuuuuut then again they probably will rig a “repair” together on that too.
Hell of a work ethic though!

It's amazing what people do with primitive tools.

 

Wow, those guys were doing lots of manual labor the old fashioned way.

 

That's probably how most of the Chinese parts that we get are made. Some of the parts I get look like they were made that way!

 

I've seen them re-build a Cat diesel outside, pretty barbaric but they get 'er done!

 

I wonder if that how my water pump was made........ Although I've never had a issue with it.... I bought a Cummins WP for a 6BT direct from Cummins northwest....180$ IIRC,, It was made India. My made in china WP sold at every parts store died within 6 months ...

 

All the parts they used including new liners were made in USA

 

Watched another one last night making tractor wheels. Guy holds the ends of the hoop together with bare feet while sitting in the dirt. tack welds with a arc welder using no face shield or safety glasses then weld the seams inside and out looking through a piece of cardboard with a lens taped into the center. Thinking wow.

 

The work those guys in the beginning of the video are doing would be a good work program for those guys in prison, it would definitely cut down on repeat offenders!

Those guys in the forging area no doubt go home feeling like they put in a hard days' work. I got short of breath just watching them.

 

Saw another this morning making radiator hoses. Several little kids working in that shop. One was feeding rubber into the extruder with his fingers going down into the shoot with a auger spinning. Yikes!
