Picked this up last Sat.. Made the owner a offer about 5 years ago he said no. It had been sitting around 4-5 years at that time. Friday he called me up asking if I was still interested. Not really my cup O tea but still a nice solid example. 80 VW Rabbit convertible W a/c and I think maybe cruise. 1.6L FI gas engine 5 speed manual trans. Engine was stuck. After a good 2 day soak I got it free and now running. New battery and plugs. Top is in very nice condition. Gonna give it a clean up and then list for sale. Anyone interested hit me up.
Im located in N Florida. Just 30 minutes south of the state line off I-75 Showing 99K on the odometer. Its a 6 digit so probably correct. I've read these cars can get 50 MPG. I dont get that out of our hybrid.
The wife had an 86 golf when we first started dating. It got excellent mileage but no where near 50. It was a fast little car though. It would dust the other compacts of the same era with ease. Unfortunately the mechanical fuel injection developed some driveability issues and there wasn't a soul around that could diagnose it. They have a cult following, it will sell fast
The 50 MPGs is for the diesel motor...... I dont remember just what the gas motor got around 30 if you drive conservatively. BTW clean little bugger... should fetch a decent $$$$ they have a group following...
Dont know for sure but the Bosch plugs had "Germany" printed on them. Parts store guy said they were original to the car.
So Its about ready to go. Just waiting on a sunny day to get some good pictures before shes listed. Im thinking in the ball park of 4500$ Will entertain offers from you guys first. PM for details.
I was just thinking what an odd time of year to be selling a convertible. then I remembered where you live.
My VW buddy said U.S. only made coupes, sedans and the occasional pick-up. All convertibles came from Germany.
