I don't eat much green so I'm safe. So far, 2022 is looking a lot like 2021, which was merely a continuation of the crapfest that was 2020. So far, this retirement and traveling thing isn't working out too well when everything is tamped down. I've not been SCUBA diving in just over 2 years and I'm getting that itch to blow some bubbles.
I've never been SCUBA diving, but we have a trip planned to Bonaire in March and I understand it's a great place to dive! Looking forward to the trip!
Soylent Green is also a wonderful reminder of the accuracy of predictions that were so fashionable back then (and still are!), of our imminent running out of oil, of humanity eating each other in a few decades... Instead, in this current world, for the first time in the history of mankind, more people die from the consequences of over-eating than from starvation. Those predictions could not have been more wrong. PS. I have a method for making bubbles in my bathtub.
I've never been to Bonaire but it is on my bucket list. It is supposed to be some of the best in the world. Definitely top 5 in the Caribbean Sea. Most resort type places have an on-site SCUBA vendor. See if they have a pool SCUBA intro program. Most are free to try it out. If you like it, they will often allow you to go on a supervised, guided dive with an instructor for a reasonable price. The pool experience is usually enough to figure out if you are going to panic underwater. Breathing under water is not something everyone takes to easily. My sister freaks out. My daughter loved it and we got certified. My wife is a non-swimmer so she's a hard no around water over her head. I've dove in the Cayman Islands, Cozumel, St. Martin and Key Largo in that general area. Cozumel and the Caymans are among the best I've dove and close to home. The Great Barrier Reef is OK for a day trip but you need to do a live aboard to reach the good stuff. Hawaii is excellent for just walking off the beach and seeing some really great reefs.
I will definitely look into some beginner SCUBA stuff when I'm there, thanks! I did SNUBA once as an excursion on one of our cruises and didn't have any issues, so hopefully I won't freak out with SCUBA, but you never know!
You aren't the top of the food chain. As any bear, mountain lion or timber wolf. Sharks don't want much to do with people. Every time I've seen one they swim away from me. People that get bitten look like seals, floating on the surface or on a surf board.
Neither Roy Scheider nor Steven Spielberg will swim in the ocean. Wading knee-deep is as far as they will go.
