That car was the GS on the 50 fastest list, and the one that inspired the Lasseter/Badie showdown. It was listed at 3810 lbs, and had the 3.64 gears. I'm sure it was super tuned with some additional timing.
Maybe I'm missing something here; it wouldn't be the first time. In any case, a nicely ported set of iron heads on a 455 will get you about 30 HP. So I'm thinking there is no way are you going to come close to this with a set of iron heads for a 350. Tommy
No need to port anything,..leave the heads alone and place a pair of 54mm hair dryers off the manifolds and let them make the Power without cluttering up the engine bay,....theys plenty of room down there for a low mount setup
before I got my engine built I had a 71 8.5 comp. I put headers on it along with a comp 268 cam I used a Thermoquad and had 373 gear and 275-60-15 TA radials. I went 14.89@93 I had stock convertor and no other work done to engine, all stock. cam only, headers. After engine rebuild with ported heads, different cam, convertor, same gears and tire size I averaged 13.50@99 and a killer 60ft time. I went a best of 13.31 and ran a lot of 13.60's The aluminum heads have about the same flow as my ported heads out of the box. You should be able to get to a 12.90's time. I can't see why not you can go 11.1 on the comp and run premium gas, maybe couple gal of race gas for safety. Run a cam with a 520 lift and 230-245 @.50 dur. and 113 lsa. Go with the 410 gear along with the 200r4 trans and lockup 3000 stall convertor. you will hit high 12's I know this does not seem like a lot to the 455 guys since you all are there already. lol For a street 350 this don't seem too bad is this just not quick enough for a 350? Do the other engines in this group have more hp? My hot rod friends talked me into trying the nitrous and it has been fun, runs like mad it really likes it, good for a second and a half, wicked out of the hole. But I wouldn't want to burn 5 grand on these heads to port them out unless I was going to go all out and race a lot since now we spinning to 7 g+ no sense in pissing around make me some round money at D42.
You would be surprised man I could put together a 100% bolt on setup for around $4k including the carb,.intercooler,..pipes everything a man would need
Hi Mark i am always encouraging people to DIY, so get the bits and port the heads, i have ported BBB, and BBC heads myself, if you want to send them out check out LLOYD ELLIOTT he does mainly LS and LT heads but is a old school guy with tons of experience AND he does the Cadi Iron BB heads FOR a foamous Cadi perfromance shop. Its Iron and a lot of work but he will do it right IF you decide to send it out. Also hugger is right. 2 small turbos and you are in a way different ball park. AND YES chinese turbos are just fine a set of GT3582s (120$ each) and you good, im not a blowthrough carb guy that swhy i converted to EFI ( best thing ever) you can run a simple fuel surge tank for the fuel system its very easy
I have a list of many things to do, too long. I lost interest in the car and it sat in the garage now I'm focused. I want to get it on the road with its mild 350 and in about 10 months I want to put together a killer motor. Big compression and NO2 or Boost and low compression.
Well if I have a year like last year with my welding work I could afford a procharger. I made real money last year. lol
Thank you for the encouragement! Im looking forward to doing it, IF all goes well, I get the satisfaction of knowing I saved THOUSANDS Turbo/supercharging the 350 is cool, and Im sure the stock architecture will take it, just look at the Turbo Regals, early on yes they blew up in some way, shape or form, but that was caused by barbaric engine management, not the engine itself. Fast forward to the mid '80's to 1987, Buick was on point, I honestly believe if the G body continued thru say 1989 with the LC2 engine, it would have been untouchable But I already have a Turbo Buick (GN) and it never ceases to amaze me the massive torque that 231 produces with the turbo, so adding a turbo or supercharger to my 350 GS would be somewhat anti-climatic for me Im staying N/A on my GS, nothing against the power adder guys, I wanna run fast on all throttle
LMAO Like the youngest son to his Mom " How come Billy gets all the neat stuff, ITS NOT FAIR" LOLOLOL As the little guy goes off in a tantrum
Don't worry I know you're over there just waiting for you to click off that 10.99 and take care of this problem over here. Just got to wait for some heat. Turbo 347 Mustang here running 8's My brother got a bigger procharger Do I have to do 250 nitrous? maybe 150 first probably break the rear end that stuff launches hard .
