https://www.ebay.com/itm/394042387783?hash=item5bbec1ad47:g:wcEAAOSwS8FiYzt5 Costly, but then again they don't seem to be making them anymore.
No, not a bad price considering. However, if the OP isn't concerned with 100% originality, he could go with the RobbMC pump that looks stock from the top and is guaranteed to work up to 550 HP. It's only $50 more. The factory fuel line can be used and modified down below to interface with the RobbMC.
Yeah, I'd considered it when I was looking for my spare. It doesn't seem like a bad option. I'm big on things being original as they can be, but I am sure there will come a day where the parts just are not there. Seems like with supply chain stuff/labor shortages/whatever that's gone on the last few years, that was the nail in the coffin for a lot Buick specific parts. I acquired one that lives in a cabinet for long term storage in my shop, at a price less than that. But if I was unable to I'd at least be considering it.
I figure once I posted this... they wouldn't be on there long. I already have my spare, so I figured help everyone out some. Looks like some members here saw this and snapped them both up.
I know that the seller's price each was higher then back when they were new, but I don't think their asking price was too awful bad for a new in the box, AC Delco pump with the cam plate on it!
Never quite understood why this is called a Stage 1 fuel pump. It's a HD cooling thing. You could have a non stage 455 with this pump if optioned w HD cooling.
True. My first GS was a ‘70 GS455 non Stage 1 with a factory trailer hitch and heavy duty cooling and it came new with the deep sump fuel pump.
Yes and also with trailer towing and HD cooling. My Gs455 was bought from the original owner and it had it.
Off topic Larry, but do you by chance have a high quality scan of that picture of all the Stage parts? I've always thought that would be cool to print and put in my shop.
I scanned the originals I have, but the resolution is limited to that original. The scans I have are better than what is posted here on V8. Send me an e mail and I'll send you my scans. My e mail is in my signature.
I wonder if that is documented somewhere like the assembly manual? I still think it was more of a Stage1 component. After all, what does the fuel pump have to do with heavy duty cooling. The vapor return is relevant, but even the standard 455 pump had a return on A/C equipped cars.
I’ve never seen it on an option list either but I’ve also never seen a GS with a trailer package on the original window sticker. The Gs455 ragtop i bought from the original owner in 1984 had the original high capacity fuel pump on it.
