Relisted..... https://chicago.craigslist.org/wcl/cto/d/oak-park-buick-super-jetback-aka/7477375799.html
Never saw one until now. That is one sweet body style. How did these cars ride? That price seems low or are these not desirable?
Not a bad price, looks very nice, this is a 2 year only body style and unless you really dig the "Sabre-toothed" look in 1950, the 1949 is your best bet for the "torpedo-back" styling. The 49 was traditionally the highest desired bodystyle of the immediate postwar era. I love it; - if I had the room I'd own it. The engine would be a 248 straight 8; with the Dynaflow it's a little underpowered and would scream like a DC-6 on a take-off roll off the lights, ( the 3 speed standard was "peppier" but more work to drive) but it would be an easy smooth cruiser. A year later they'd introduce the 263 straight 8 which was an improvement and a little more power. This style in Roadmaster with the 320 would be a better car power-wise, but this isn't bad either. This body style might actually be rarer than the less produced but highly sought after hardtop, most of these were unloved when the hardtops became popular and the survivors gave parts to restore the hardtops. It'd be well-bought at this price.
I re-read the ad, don't see where it says v8 . About 70-80,000 of these made, against about 18,000 Roadmaster Sedanets. Only about 2,500 Rosdmaster Rivieras.
I am pleased to report back that it has the original engine and tranny! Not a hot rod, I talked to the owner Matt and it sounds like the real deal. He has several Buicks but likes the convertibles. He had a lot of work done to make the car safe to drive with his family. More pics: https://photos.app.goo.gl/2tckTKy5WWajC9JJA
Took a look at the pictures, wow does that bring back memories. Yes, it's a 248. It looks pretty original, the only thing that would really make that car pop would be if it had the red wheel rims, against the black body it just popped. I had that on my 46 Super, and they looked fantastic. Now I'm regretting selling mine...
