Are there any known salvage yards that part out Buicks routinely? I know French Lake sometimes has Buick parts but that's it for me. I'd love to know who else I might call for 1961 LeSabre parts. Thanks
I called 5 salvage yards, so far and no vents or qtr window regulators. Woller's in CO told me that it would be the end of October before they could ship it IF they had it. Told me he was not taking orders right now and to call back mid October. Jeez.
Post in parts wanted here on this website. There aren't enough of these cars left for the wrecking yard business in general. Also they were big and heavy and had lots of steel, so they tended to recycle them in the 90's.
I was naïve enough to go to my local auto wreckers when I got the Wildcat. I thought that they would be a great resource for me, but.... they all stated the same thing. "Anything 1990 or older has been sent to the crusher years ago." I thought "You have got to be kidding?" Nope, all gone.
I found out today that the regulator is not my problem. Someone jury rigged the U channel seals years ago and put something in the channel that kept the rear of the glass from seating. I ordered new ones from Steele today. Hopefully, I get it installed and adjusted with little problems. Thanks. The state of used auto parts for old cars is sad. There are a few large yards left in the U.S. but they appear to be really busy and minimally staffed. The rest, as stated, got crushed in "Cash for Clunkers". My uncle and my cousin ran a towing business for about 60 years. He crushed $300k worth of old cars when scrap prices went crazy. Lots of Mopar stuff. I wish I had at least gotten a look over before it went to the crusher. {sigh}
The last yard I knew of that had the old stuff up here in Canada was a place called Aldon Auto in Lamont, Alberta. I was last in the yard in 2009 and was able to pull a rocker shaft assembly off of a 66 Wildcat. I also got the intake and carb, the car had a locked up 425. Jeez...It just dawned on me that it was over 13 years ago now...probably all gone now too, I don't know.
There is an old auto wreckers just outside of Pierceland Sask. that my Brother-In-Law told me has a '66 Electra that should have parts. We went up there last summer, me all excited to get the Rally rims off of it for my car. I went up to the counter, smiled and asked them about it. "I'm sorry." he said. We crushed that one last fall." . Did you save the rims?. He said "No, it was all crushed." Seems to be my luck.
Yeah, I remember that place; I couldn't make a deal there. They always thought they had gold, and my offer was never good enough. So, being that it was my discretionary income and it wasn't for something I really needed, I chose to let it all pass. Fine, crush it, so how much is your "gold' worth to you now? Buick parts are only worth a fortune if you find someone who needs them and can afford to part with the fortune you think you deserve. Glad I didn't buy that A/C unit, - it wouldn't have fit and since the car it was supposed to go into is also worthless, there's no point in throwing good money after bad.
I was in a friend's yard, in Anthony NM last weekend. He still has about 350 cars. However, they are extremely remote from potential customers. Yard was on Junkyard Gold at least once. However, with a lack of fakebook marketplace, the world passes you by.
I found a guy, that had front bumper brackets for my 70 GS in Oklahoma. They were in Mint Condition.. They were pretty pricey..but Worth it in the long run. I had looked all over the country and couldn't find any. He is on Ebay & goes by the name of "thegtoguru".. Shipped fast and Packaged very carefully... I don't know what all he has in his yard. Sure hope it wasn’t “biker fox”. You just may? have had a good experience with him, however, I’ve just read the stories. There is another large seller in Tulsa, whose reputation is good, believe his last name is “Rose”.
