I will hopefully soon be the owner of a Poston front airdam spoiler. As I understand it, these are quite rare. Would this be an item you'd be interested in reproducing? I'm not sure if molds can be made from an existing fiberglass part?
I’d like to see a picture of it when you receive it Yes you can copy a fiberglass part. You may need to prep the surface to get it smooth but it’s not a big deal.
I’m looking for glass 70 front bumper, I’ll watch this thread… also need a glass deck lid too. Thanks!
Glad I bought my 1970 fenders, bumpers, doors and decklid from VFN when I did,but I still want one of these hoods...
That hood is so beautiful- I tried to avoid it but I can’t any longer - if you are still taking names could you please put me on the list my username is windyv6
Well I pulled the latest hood out of the mold and it was abnormally difficult to get it to release. I've never seen this happen so I'm thinking i may be my release agent. The hood pulled some of the gelcoat right off the mold surface. I've already sanded the edges smooth and should have new tooling gelcoat delivered tomorrow. Spray it, cure, sand it and buff it out then back in production.
Unfortunately it’s not a fast moving list. I am finishing up the hood for FC61 as we speak. This one’s actually going to Denmark, my first shipment out of the country. I’m working on the hood mold repair and then I’ll be back at it. I’m also making progress on the 70 front bumper mold. This is a 3 piece mold. I’m doing the two end sections first and then the center, larger piece. This is the orange tooling gelcoat sprayed on before lots of layers of glass. Hoods are still the priority
Fiberglass 70 bumper…Just a try here, I’ll be on vacation in pigeon forge at end of October. Depending on where in GA you are,I could pick it up.. I know it’s a long shot, but I figured I’d ask. Thanks!
You’re going to be about 200 miles, 4 1/2 hours from me. I’m about 30 miles east of Atlanta in Oxford. I’m down in Florida right now tending to my mom. I’ll get back this weekend and get all the layers of glass on the ends of the bumper mold and then start the center section. Needless to say I probably won’t have the mold completed till the second week of November then it has to sit for a little bit and cure before I make the first bumper which I’m hoping for by December.
This guy is eagerly waiting for a bumper and whatever else you might craft up. Any plans to make a rear one for 70?
Yes I want to do a rear for the 70. I have to look closer at the steel one I have. I’m not 100% sure if the light housings mount similar to the 71. If I did a bumper where the area where the lights go is just a flat recessed area there’s no problem. But I’d like to make it so the housing bolts in like a stock unit.
Yes. I want glass bumpers that I can mount my lights to. I currently have a pair from the place in Ohio that made them years ago. They are nice, but I will need to fab up something to mount the lights.
I finished a hood and shipped it off to Denmark a few weeks ago. Still waiting to hear if it made it unscathed I sent the next person in line a note yesterday to see if he’s still interested in a hood. I did make an experimental hood after the Denmark hood. I was seeing if I could cut the weight back a little but still maintain strength and cost. The hood came in about 4 pounds lighter which is about 10%. (34 vs 38 pounds) I may change over to this layup after the hood is tested. I’m delivering it to a racer in Florida next week when I visit my Mom. He’s ready to start testing it as soon as he gets it. I’ll start on the next “standard” hood after I get back from Florida next weekend. I am doing the final trimming and touch up on my mold for the 70 front bumper as well. After I make one of those I’ll test it on my car. I’m still messing around a little with carbon fiber on a few little parts. I’ll use the money I get from the test hood to get a vacuum pump and all the odds and ends you need to vacuum bag. Craig
