Talked to buddy yesterday who sold his GS years ago and he has a set of NOS air cleaner foams in GM boxes. These are the yellowish foam style, p/n 1386813. He was wondering what the current prices are for NOS foams? I saw a pair on Ebay for $500 but they look like the repos with the gray foam. He is not on the board, so I am asking for him. They are not for sale....yet. Just looking for current value. Thanks
Last set I brought were about $100 a good ten years ago...repos are exellent and well worth the $50 a pair they cost now
they will prolly be on ebay 4 along time, next thing ppl will what 2 know what color 2 use in there battery, anyone know why og oil filters are a different color than replaement ones?
We kinda thought that $500 was pretty outrageous! Thanks for the advice. You are right about the reproduction sets, that's what I have on my GS and I am very satisfied with the quality!
The oil filter you drove off the lot with was painted red along with the engine. And in 1970, a new AC oil filter was white... NOS foams....the repros are almost perfect these days. Sonetimes you really need to draw a line. I'll pay the 25 bucks or whatever the going rate is from @Ramair455ho and pocket the $470 in savings. And the beauty is there's probably like 4 people on this board that would honestly be able to tell the difference
nope they were blue,i still have some, same part number,so if you an in to the dealer wth a blown eng and had not changed oil you had to pay replacemenrs are whire
This is what an NOS 1970 AC PF-24 filter looks like, there's one on ebay now: https://www.ebay.com/itm/253055719844 Color change to blue happened in mid 1974 according to some research. Devon
I thought there was some dialog on the board that the originals had a yellowish tint to the foam? These NOS foams my buddy has have the yellowish tint, where the reproductions are gray. It doesn't make a bit of difference to me, but maybe the concours crowd has a different opinion?
Im pretty sure the repro thats available thru the board here is concours correct. That's good enough for me
I don't se that they are concour correct, as, the ones I have seen do not have the "squared" corner. Hopefully somebody is making them now with that corner feature, otherwise, they scream REPRO Original factory filter was red from the engine being painted red at production.
I sold a pair of original NOS yellowish foams on this board earlier this year for $135 plus shipping. That will give you a starting point. Now I almost never sell my parts to get the max dollar amount I could get, that’s just the way I am. As far as the new reproduction foams. Yes, if they are the ones with the correct outside shape, then they are fine for Concours. Duane Also, as far as the oil filters, we have color factory documentation that the filters were on the engines when they were painted. (They we’re on there so NO paint got inside the engine. For Concours, we would accept either a red painted one, or one of the white ones with the decals. We do not require that the filters have the embossed writing on them, even though that is the way many (but not all) years came………….BUT, if you paint your filter red, then it should have the decal under the red paint. One year at Carlisle there was a vender set up a few spaces from me and he had cases and cases of original oil filters. I spent the whole weekend opening the boxes and checking the date codes (on the boxes) to see when the changes occurred. He also had cases of original wiper refills, so I got that info as well. Duane
PS, As far as original filters, there were different styles of embossed writing depending on the year, as well as some with no writing at all. It really depended on the year the car was built. Duane
Brian does make the correct pointed corner foams. I have about 12 sets here right now The only one that is lacking is the triangle 72 style.
