IMH0, leave the paint if decent. Is it a bucket seat car? Buckets in '71 were only available as a SCO (Special Car Order) & not a RPO (Regular Production Option). No way to k ow how many were made w/buckets, but it wasn’t many.
Thanks, yes it has pearl white bucket seats, sport wheel, Ac,Ps, Pb, Tachometer, Sport wheel. Is driver seat needs a re-cover. Been sitting. Spider webs will be easy to remove tho. Lol
Thank you, it's definitely a flawed patina and has some dents, chips and dings. I would at least have to do a partial paint.
Special car order bucket seat option you had to order and 71 and 72 actually had a fight for it. If there’s no serious body issues, I leave it original paint and clean it up.
Starting to get cold feet as the day goes on. The owner is a few hours away and I have him doing checks for me. Turns out this car, as most early 71s has an SF block from 1970, likely a leftover. The numbers do not match. However I am being told that this is likely because it was a leftover block and they were in a hurry after a strike? This thing even has OEM style exhaust and original cast iron manifolds. Also early cars can have an OW trans rather than a BB, which this does. This leaves me with very little reason to feel I am guaranteed that it's a Stage1. I have read however that Stage1's have reinforced upper A-arms. I don't know how they are reinforced, does anyone have pics? Or is this BS?
There would not be a SF stamp on a 71 Stage-1 engine. You are going to find that the VIN stamp on the engine does not match the car. You need to check the VIN on the trans to see if it matches the car. You also need to confirm the other parts as the dist 1112016 and carb 7041242.
Sloan claimed the early cars had leftover 70 SF engines in early 71s. No it does not match numbers. The carb is changed. The distributor is attached. Maybe 1970?
That picture of the distributor you posted is a 72 Buick 350 must have a 455 distributor gear on it. Sorry
I am guessing if it was a left over SF it would most likely be a standard 455 as it was in 70 and not a stage-1 455.
