The driver’s side door thumb plunger on 70 A body has no resistance and will not open my door which can be opened from the inside. Once before when this happened, I noted that the rod inside the door that was supposed to go to the back of handle had fallen away. Believing this may be the same issue and before I take the door panel off is there a fix for this issue?
Thanks for the info and photo guys. I saw a set on Ebay but will check NAPA. I just might have to pull both door panels off to see exactly what I am missing and need. I did a little searching for an inside the door photo but had no luck.
Guys, I have a section on my website that is dedicated to Clips, Clamps & Brackets. All in ONE section which makes life a lot easier when trying to locate them! You can view that section here > https://www.stage1restoration.com/product-category/clips_clamps_brackets/ I do have all of the clips shown in this post! (Actually try and stock EVERY clip that is needed to restore the 1970 - 72 Cars - IF available) I also have a Door Section on the website that contains all parts associated with the Doors! https://www.stage1restoration.com/product-category/soor-components/
It appears this is no clip as I checked the P/S as well. Rod coming out of thumb push button can turn clockwise going horizontal and not hitting flat metal "paw" as it should. See photo
Typically that rod has a slight Bend (downward) to it so it doesn't slide up and over the top of the Latch "strike zone". If it slides up and over the "stike zone" it won't do anything . . . . Button will push in but door won't open. .
Both sides actually have the slight bend. I was not able to get the proper angle to show it. The bend part of the rod can actually be turned clockwise 180 which moves it away from the proper strike spoke on the DS. PS is more stiff.
Since toth sides do I am going to try and put a spring clip on the right side where I had a plastic tie before that the mechanic took off. Time to visit the help section for some ideas as to what size
