Almost 26 miles of all highway, ran good, still not noticing or hearing any ping/ detonation at nearly 12 to 1 comp ratio. I set total timing to 33 deg. Initial came in at 16. With my last set up I had timing at 38 total according to my masking tape I had stuck on my rad support. Why isn’t this thing rattling?? My cam is NOT big, overlap is only a few degrees, and my duration is not crazy, so I’m not bleeding off tons of cylinder pressure. I’m not complaining, just curious. It pulls hard in second and third, auto downshift to first it spins for a while, then goes. I have read/ heard that a smaller bore is more tolerant to higher compression And yes my Speedo is dead nuts accurate, and I’m sure my Auto Meter tach is correct too
Do you have a part number? Summit doesn't show any knock sensor kits except for factory replacements.
Mark, Have you calculated your Dynamic compression ratio using the recognized formula? You may be surprised to find that it's low enough to prevent detonation. Also, do you have aluminum heads? They're also very forgiving when it comes to knock.
Honestly I don’t remember if it’s 160 or 180, it’s less than 200 Larry calculated it a few weeks ago, it was almost 9.0 for dynamic. Iron heads.
I had the Casper’s in my GN, it piggy backed the factory knock sensor wiring. Does Casper’s make a stand alone knock sensor?
I’m out on a limb here, but people say the 350 Buick responds well to nitrous, and boost. Higher compression is very similar to boost, except you have compression all the time.
Not with the higher compression, when it was 11.1 to 1 it had 185 lbs I’ll check it when I get home, thanks for reminding me
I asked because your gauge is reading below 180*, or it's not at temp yet. My 180 stat opens at 180 and runs at 185*ish. Stock, these 350s with a/c equipment had 195*stats. Idk if cooler or hotter has a big effect on your pinging?
It usually never gets hotter than 190/200 I noticed at Opry Land Hotel in Tennessee after I parked it it crept up to 220/230, sweeeeet!
Tested between 195 and 200 psi The plug on the left is a new one, the plug on the right is from my old build. I broke one plug, so that’s all I replaced.
