I posted this as a blurb in the "what did you do to your buick" thread. will be better to put it in the correct place as to not derail the other one I had planned to be at the track with the Hawk today . Last night we went to TnT to do some shake down / dialing it in then they were to do a Summit points race today. I got there a bit late, set up and warmed the car, did tech then hit the lanes for a pass. Got up and went left lane as I wanted to see what my view was over that huge scoop. Cant see the green but can sight in on the last of the yellow bulbs so I'm good there. Did my burn out staged up and left. I later heard terms used to describe it as violent and like a rocket. Hoops came up and was on the bars broke traction peddled and got back on it , broke tractions a second time after pulling the tires again . and so it went down the track. At the top end it shut off and when trying to recrank I got 0 oil pressure. Time slip said she went 12.30 @ 109 throttle stopped to 1/2 travel. I see no damage ext on the engine, no oil under the car. I did manage a very short test fire to confirm there was 0 on the gage but heard no weird noises. Will look into it further today.
Sorry to hear ! even before trying to crank it again I would pull the filter off and cut it open to look for abnormal crap.
That sucks, hope you didn't do any damage....i.know you have alot of time and money in it. I would certainly be operating the oil pump manually to test.
Its a system one filter and I would have done that at the track last night but did not have a catch pan on the trailer. Will do today. Thats on the plan after the filter check. Hoping thats all the issue is.
Bet the oil pressure relief valve in your pump is stuck again, just like it did when you were dyno testing down in FLA.. Remember we could get no oil pressure at all until we located and freed up that valve in your pump.. sounds like the same deal. I am sure you will be spinning the pump with a drill, don't fire it again until you have finished it. Filter was super clean after out dyno session here, so I doubt that's a concern. And yes, all the bar settings will have to be changed in the car, power and weight have changed.. move the bottom 4 link bars up one hole in the front brackets to begin with. JW
Absolutely do not adjust the 4 link. The suspension is set perfect on the car. It is made to ride the wheelie bar approx 1.5 feet of the ground for 60 to 80 feet. Too much air in those tires. Those pbr are a great tire but a learning curve. Also being part throttle it didn't hit the suspension properly either. So since I have 600 passes in that car and took all the advice I could from previous owner just make a few easy passes till you get a hang of the car. Otherwise you will be chasing something and wasting passes on trial and error. The car has been 7.90 with that setup with less weight on the front. You are fine. John jr

OK guys. Dumped the filter into a clean pan. Nothing special. few non magnetic sparkles and I rolled a magnet around in the oil. picked up some really fine metallic material, again nothing really to be worried about. Removed the pump as per Jims suggestion, was on my to do list, took it apart. clean inside removed that bypass valve, didnt seems stuck cleaned it up, packed it and put her back on the car. spun it with a drill got pressure then fired the car. Acting totally normal now but I think a change of oil is in order. Once the car is hot and the oil thins that peterson pump does not want to prime up enough to close the safety switch to power the ignition. The moly Lube 5/40 may be to thin. Sure looks like stuff on that magnet...... Looks furry in the picture. 30 psi at idle seems low given the pump it has......heck with my scavenger and hv pump I see 50psi warm and over 100 by 2000 rpm.......that is way more pump
I wouldn’t run that motor until you pull the pan check everything good. with zero oil pressure and a magnet that looks like that Too money to be guessing!
That pump makes so much volume of oil I had to put an inline ext regulator. Without it I was seeing 140 psi+ on the rev hot/cold. It dumps the excess into the cover plate for the mech fuel pump hole. So if needed I could give it another turn to bring up the pressure. Im going to tighten the spring on the Petersons regulator so it does not open at all and hopefully this wont happen again. Jim and I both agree whats on that magnet is nothing to worry about.
Car is set up with a pressure switch that cuts ing when the pressure falls below 7-10 psi. Im sure its not hurt.

Ok that makes more sense with a pump like that.........in my mind there was no way it only made 30 psi. I'm guessing then the furry magnet looks worse in the picture than in real life. Its funny how things appear different in pictures........I took pictures after my 464 broke rod bolts of the pistons........in the pictures they look to peppered like detonation.........but its just the reflection of all the led lights in my shop.......in real life they are smooth like new
The bearing material isn't magnetic. The magnet is not a good judge. I would drop the oil and see if its full of glitter before you run it much more.
